It sounds like it is simply a money thing, which many of us have known all along. That said, it also seems that Fowler is finally gonna put up the money to get a good coach. I told a friend of mine that this whole Barnes thing would be fun because we get to screw Texas either way. One, we take their coach....or two we make them pay more money to keep their own coach. Small Victories.

If Barnes doesn't bite off such a big offer someone will....someone big!!

barnes is already making 1.3 million a year... pumping that up to 1.5 mil probably isn't too big of a problem for Texas Athletics

Look at it this way, if we WOULD have actually fired Herb that's 800K a year we would've eaten for 4 years. Ontop of that we would have payed someone around the same price or maybe an even mil. SO now that Herb has left, we don't eat his contract, so we could just as easily start our offer at 1.8mil.....

Too early to talk about moving away from big names. none look that promising I admit. All the I'm happy where I am is crap anyways, not to say they aren't though.

Herb said something along the lines of "I am looking to the promising future of this program and have no inention of leaving" after we played Texas.

You're dumb if you don't think we've offered him a set figure yet. The word "official" has no meaning in these situations...you've either told him you want him as your coach or you haven't. And Barnes has either said "no", "yes", or "i'll think about it."

^^i think we've given him numbers but no official offer. i'm sure asu was talking to herb before the "official" offer was made. if he didn't show interest, there never would have been an offer.

i'm saying we haven't made an official offer, so there's no way he could officially decline. he could say no in the low-key discussions, but that would never come out as him officially saying no. all he would do in that case is sign a new contract with texas and say he's not leaving. i dont think we will ever meet with him directly unless he actually comes here.
