I need to get my eyes checked and buy contacts or glasses. How much will this whole process cost me ? Does insurance (BlueCross BlueShield school insurance) cover some amount ? Thanks in advance 4/4/2006 7:24:42 PM |

I pay my copay for the eye exam (for me, $20)... then have to pay an additional fee for the contact lense fitting (for me, $100 - based on eyesight, # of pairs you try, etc.)... then my contacts are $150 for 6 months supply (again, based on type of lense, Rx, etc.)
That puts me at $270 for everything... 4/4/2006 7:30:31 PM |

If your job lets you put away money in a flex account (deducted from you paycheck before taxes and you can use the money for medical anything, even buying cough syrup) you might want to consider that to help cover the costs. You can use a flex card to pay for it so you don't have to pay and then get reimbursed. 4/4/2006 7:32:49 PM |

Call the insurance company and ask what coverage you get for eye exams, contact fittings, and toward the purchase of contacts or glasses (usually you get a lump sum that can be used toward one or the other) I don't have the school version of BCBS and i've always had supplemental insurance on top of that, so I'm not sure what type of coverage you are eligible for. 4/4/2006 9:11:38 PM |

Certain types of lenses can cost a lot more. My glasses nearly always cost $300 or so. Fucking astigmatism, I swear. 4/4/2006 9:48:05 PM |

My glasses always run $300-$400. My contacts are a whopping $36 for a three month supply. 4/5/2006 9:24:11 AM |
