Quote : | "Beginning Monday, the Oceanside Unified School District is banning all flags and patriotic clothing. According to school officials, some students are using the garments and flags to taunt classmates.
Some critics of the move are calling it a violation of free speech protections guaranteed by the Constitution.
The American Civil Liberties Union points to the landmark Supreme Court case Tinker v. Des Moines. In that case, school officials attempted to stop students who were protesting the Viet Nam War from wearing black armbands.
"The school has to be able to show a strong likelihood that there is going to material and substantial disruption of school, and if they don’t meet that standard, then they can't censor student speech," said Kevin Neenan of the ACLU." |

just b/c 1 case out of any 100 actually supports the real Constitution (e.g. the one we read about in class) doesn't make the ACLU any less of an anti-America (read: anti-Constitutional) sellout
now granted I pay my dues for that 1 case out of 100, but let's not pretend like it's some glorious organization 4/5/2006 1:55:51 PM |

The ACLU is fucking awesome. I hope some multimillion dollar lottery winner donates most/all of their winnings to them.
It'd be difficult to find much that the ACLU has done that I disagree with..... 4/5/2006 3:09:15 PM |

^I don't care what cause they donate to, someone who would donate all of their lottery winnings would be fucking retarded. 4/5/2006 3:12:41 PM |

Or, you know... altruistic 4/5/2006 3:23:08 PM |

^^....depends
If the winner is young, they could spend the money on getting an education (if they didn't already have one, or a better one if they did,) or starting a business to eventually make back all the money they invested in the first place…….That way they could still donate the amount they won, just not all at once, plus live off of it.
If the winner is old, (and didn't know anyone young that could be trusted to eventually donate the money according to the above idea,) then he/she might as well donate it all before they die and it goes to bullshit taxes or their non-altruistic next of kin..... 4/5/2006 3:38:46 PM |

^^Ha, well I'd take the $. I didn't say I wouldn't donate any, just not all. 4/5/2006 3:45:30 PM |

^What if you were in that old guy's situation as described above, or something similar?…..like if you were terminally ill?
Would you at least donate a larger % than you would donate if you weren't in that situation? Or would you donate the same %? Or would you donate less, and try to blow it all before you die?
(We may need a "How would you spend your million $ lottery payout?" thread....) 4/5/2006 4:07:50 PM |

Well, I hope that one day I will get the chance to have this dilemna (the money part, not the terminally ill). Like I said, I would give some to charity (a good bit). However, I would rather use more of it to do charitable work myself, or start a charity. But, I would still like to have a good bit of the money to myself, my family, and just some to blow, invest, and do other things. 4/5/2006 10:46:10 PM |

they try to appease ignorant righties by picking up these cases that ANYONE could win. i know this from firsthand dealings with them. it's a PR thing and nothing more. 4/5/2006 10:51:26 PM |

i loved it when the ACLU filed on behalf of helping protect the rights of that drug addict, Rush Limbaugh.
and Rush Limbaugh's website even featured a copy of the ACLU brief in his defense of being a poor drug addict who was being persecuted by the Florida State A/G. 4/6/2006 1:37:32 AM |

I went to a pizza shop and the guy gave me a fucking small slize. if the pizza was a pie chart for what someone would do if they won the lottery, he gave me the "give it to charity" slice. GODDAMNIT. I want the "keep it"4/6/2006 9:05:46 AM |
