for that price range. I'd get her a stylish DKNY, GUESS or KENNETH COLE watch. i think mens watches look awesome on chicks, but that's my preference, G. 4/6/2006 12:26:40 PM |

I have a Swiss Army Wenger that I love. I got it about 6 years ago and have never need to fix anything on it besides for replacing the battery and I wear it everyday. They are under your price by almost a half, dont know you consider these in the Fossil status.
Does she wear both gold and silver jewerly? I only wear silver so I wouldnt want a watch with gold in it but if she wears both, then the two toned would look good with any jewerly she might wear. 4/6/2006 12:58:02 PM |

what's wrong with a "fucking fossil"? do you know that you're not wearing one?
anyways, my fiancee and i both like our guess watches...if you're looking for a watch that tells time accurately then pretty much all of them do that...if you're looking for a watch that's original, catches people's attention, and tells time you're gonna have to spend more than $300-350...i'm partial to movado's tungsten carbide watches, but i'm not sure if they have a woman's version...4/6/2006 1:00:52 PM |

I have an Anne Klein that I like....pretty sure it was under $100...ditto on the two tone/gold/silver (match what jewelry she wears). Mine is all silver (band, face numbers, hands) but I wish it was 2-tone now. Also, keep in mind that some people are particular about digital/roman numerals/numbers as well as the size of the face and said numbers or glow in the dark, etc. I'm really picky so most of the time I have to go watch hunting myself, so you might wanna consider going to pick one out together. 4/6/2006 1:29:47 PM |

My parents gave me a citizen watch for my birthday a few years ago...it was one of the more simple styles and was solar-powered (not sure if all the styles are). It has held up very well, although the finish on the band has started to wear off. All-in-all, very good watch 4/6/2006 2:06:22 PM |

i bought a couple of seiko watches at an outlet store at concord mills near charlotte. both were very nice watches that i have seen in normal retail stores for over $300. i paid $150 for one and $100 for the other. not suggesting an outlet seiko in particular but just letting you know you can get really nice watches at outlets for $350 or you can get a normally $350 watch for $150. might could check out the outlet stores at the airport outlet mall or smithfield or if you have the time and initiative, concord mills. 4/6/2006 5:49:45 PM |

seikos are very nice, also fossil
but
make sure you get her one with a second hand. don't know what your girlfriend does or plans to do for a living, but some professions need to have a second hand on their watch (well, anything in the medical field, and i'm sure many others). my ex got me a really nice one without a second hand and i can't wear it anymore on a regular basis...

If she is active and needs a nice rugged watch, I'm very happy with my St. Moritz. I think it retails for ~$150 and is marketed as a dive watch. I've had mine for almost a year and abuse the hell out of it. If you look close you can see some scuffs on the band, but it has held up very well considering what I put it through.

My newest addition to my 'family'
I typically wear men's watches and just have to adjust the bracelets a little smaller (take out all the removable links, then have my watch-maker cut out 2 non-removables).... I, too, hate small watches, but have tiny arms.
For your price range you can either go low-line Swiss, or Upper end Japanese Movement (seiko, citizen, etc)....

Techomarine watches are pretty big, I love mine. Most of the sport collections have an extra band that comes with so you can change the colors whenever you want. I also like the big guy watches, they're so much better than ladies. Also, the technomarines have some neat features and gadgets that I like. 4/6/2006 10:28:21 PM |

Yea, I do that too.... but you gotta have something to 'play' with now... 100% of it can't be stuffed away.
JonHGuth... Tag Heuer's prices are in the process of going up as we speak (my SKU's are in the mail).... Their formal increase goes into effect next week.... QTPie All American 7496 Posts user info edit post |
The only moderately priced tourbillon types you'll find are knock offs or ones that just 'look' like them with a skeleton front.... Tourbillon movements are extraordinarily complicated and expensive to produce.... The last one I saw was upwards of $140K.... I wouldn't put that in the 'moderately priced' category

You can get Gucci as well as D&G (Dolce & Gabbana) watches fairly cheap, too. If your girlfriend is into high fashion stuff or wants a formal/non sporty watch.
Try here:
http://www.watchesplanet.com/
They had lots of cute ones!
ETA: Swiss Army watches are nice too, but a pain in the butt to get replaced or whatnot if the battery dies. You have to take it to an authorized dealer and they replace it in a pressurized something or other.

^^ The site is OK, except for the fact that they aren't an authorized dealer for any watch they carry, and they mark the "retail" price up higher than the actual prices from the manufacturer (Most Swiss watches have blanket prices set by the Company so they're the same everywhere in the US), just so it looks like you're getting a good 'deal'... It's Not worth it if I'm spending that kind of money.
And the pressurized thingy you refer to is a pressure test to ensure the water seals are in tact and it's water resistant to the proper depth... If you just open the back of a watch, you almost always break the seals on the way in. Most people who buy fine Swiss watches buy them for durability - water resistance & an investment, not so they can just take them to a Kiosk to have a $3 battery put into it. Would you take your Mercedes to the Saturn dealership to have it serviced?... Same theory..... 4/16/2006 12:44:19 AM |
