damn good read, I wish more people would read that

I like this part best:

Quote :
"Case had a strategist’s mind and a promoter’s heart. He originated tournaments — the Dixie Classic with the “Big Four” colleges in the state playing against four outsiders. He forced the construction of enormous Reynolds Coliseum to be completed. He treated the rival teams in nearby Chapel Hill and Durham like junkyard hounds.

In his first 10-year period at State, Case won six Southern Conference tournaments, three ACC tournaments and six Dixie Classics. During that time his teams never won fewer than 24 games a season and several times the Wolfpack was ranked No. 1 in the country. …

What Case had established was enthusiasm and a fanatical interest in college basketball. He forced the Big Four campuses to match him. After State had defeated Carolina 15 straight times, the Chapel Hill school brought Frank McGuire down from St. John’s in 1952. … "

because you're less than 30 miles away from two schools that always have a shot at the national championship now?

because at one time we were just as good and had as many titles as UNC-CH and had more than Duke

It's amazing to me that people quantify a high profile coach to winning. I don't want Rick Barnes persay...I would like a coach who make the fans enjoy the game again. I want a coach who can be charismatic. I want a coach who makes me proud to be a state fan again. I don't care about his record against dook or unc...I care about how me makes me feel regarding the program

Sendeck, I thought, was a great coach for the situation. I wish him all the luck in the world at ASU. To say State fans ran him off is ignorant...he had to know his time here was coming to an end...his style of basketball was flat out stale. The end of our year this year personified exactly what we are living through year after year with herb as a coach...build up and breakdown.

Bring on a fast pace game, athletes that make the game exciting and stop trying to slow the ball down and grind the game out.

^^^^UNC had a great shot at the national championship during their 8 win season

and JJ Redick and Shelden...they must've won some titles, or at least gotten to the final four

just get us a fucking coach who actually went to state and played ball for state

amato might wear clown shoes but at least he's a fucking wolfpack alumnus

I'm betting Josh Powell has nothing to do right now

Get K Rob in there he knows a lot about basketball...

Personally, Alum is not the way to go

Josh Powell is actually kind of busy...he plays for the Dallas Mavericks

Koren Robinson currently plays in the NFL

Nate McMillan on the other hand is head coach for the Portland Trailblazers

Derek Whittenburg is head coach for the Fordham University men's bball team

and Sidney Lowe is an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons

Um, they did get to the Final Four.

And they had a championship in the bag if Shelden/Shavlik didn't foul out like morons.

I still laugh thinking about that scrub white boy getting owned by Okafor the last two possesions.

^my bad on Powell, heard he had a good game last night

My point was that it doesn't matter if they are an alum or not. People always make a big deal about it and I never understand why.

As long as the coach they bring in runs a better offense than the weave and heave...I will support them.

^ok true
^^i just think that, regardless of what you think about sendek or amato...amato did go to state...and even though we lost our last 2 games to unc...he went to state and knows unc is a rival and wants to beat them...now i think sendek definitely wanted state to do well...but he didnt bleed red and white...he bled...whatever the hell colors were carnegie mellon's i guess

^^^Not sure I care what a kid from the Bronx thinks about Case, if that is our only recruiting pitch we got more problems than a coach. In retrospect, I will miss Herb's recruiting ability, his develpment of the players is where I won't give the loss a second thought

The most important point there (for right now) isn't that we should take great pride in our heritage (though we certainly SHOULD), but that there was a time when we were king and Duke is not. So why in the world should we just simply accept the way things are now? The idea that Things Will Never Change&trade is obviously crap, and our own history proves this.

whose fault is it that the only thing we can hang our hat on is our great past?

not mine... I've always wanted us to be a winner... my whole life
