i'm lookin to go to places with good material to photograph, whether they be indoors or outdoors. can anyone recommend places around the raleigh area that are good to go to for this reason? like scenic views, etc.

If you're really creative and good with a camera you can be just about anywhere and take good pictures. Start paying attention to architecture and all the little details abound you. Play with perspective and framing. Etc.....

if you need to ask where to take good pictures, you have already failed as a photographer.

bring your camera with you everywhere, granted if you have a nice dslr or whatever it probably won't be convenient to carry it with you at all times (that's what a smaller decent point and shoot is for) but you never know when you might see something that catches your eye and would make a really good photograph

just be observant, you can make pretty much any subject look interesting

Things I've been doing with mine:

pictures of weird lighting
pictures of campus graffiti (especially all the stenciled stuff that's been showing up)
perspective shots from the bottoms of staircases and things like that

Pretty much just anything that catches your eye. All over east campus right now the trees and flowers are in bloom.

Take your camera everywhere you go.. If possible.. When you see something you think looks cool.. snap away.. Not trying to be a smart ass.. But that's a good way to take some good pictures without knowing what you want.

Many times I have driven by something and wished I had my camera and I usually never end up going back so it's a lost opportunity.

Downtown at night (maybe a view down the train tracks towards the city), Lake Johnson (lots of seagulls out there), Centennial Campus (in the woods across the Lake), Campus, Art Museum. There are plenty of places to take pics just got to keep an eye out.

Post them in your photo gallery if you don't mind. I'd like to see them.

Taken while walking around campus. I'm sure you can find more stuff scattered around Raleigh.

I can't wait to get my CHL, then I can go downtown and hunt for nice pictures.

I agree with the comments about taking your camera everywhere. Things really do just come up that way! Other than that, of places not mentioned, the Arboretum can be a good place if you want nature related pictures. There's almost always a good picture to take though if you keep your eyes open.
