Haha I just thought it was intersting becuase they made some legitimate points about the lack of "in game coaching" cal does. He seems to just let his athletes go, which seemed to work this year at least.

We're used to being outcoached, so that wont be an issue.

The question is whether or not he can make it look good while being outcoached.

fuck those monkeys

that's why they're talking about it instead of doing it

Calipari will come to NC State BECAUSE of the challenge, not inspite of it

"In 14 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Calipari's record stands at 341-130 (.724). His record in March is 67-28 (.705). His record in the NCAA tournament is 15-8 (.652) and in the NIT is 15-5 (.750). He has made eight NCAA tournaments, the Sweet Sixteen four times, the Elite Eight three times, and the Final Four one time. He has made five NITs, with one championship in 2002."

You don't get records like that if you can't coach. Doesn't matter what league you're in.

Selected Teams from conferences Cal has coached in

C-USA Marshall, Rice, Tulane, Southern Miss, ECU, S. Methodist, Tulsa, UTEP

A-10 VTech, LaSalle, URI, Duquesne, St. Bonnie, Temple, Xavier, Dayton

ACC-12 UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, BC, Maryland, GTech, Miami, UVa

....he WILL get exposed as a mediocre coach when his level of competition goes up

prove me otherwise

yeah he would have definitely had to meet some very good teams to get to those sweet 16, elite 8 and final 4 appearances.

take a look at some other coaches that have been in those conferences for a long time. do they have cal's numbers?

no, they don't.

how many other c-usa coaches built their program up to top-5 status? #1-seed?

you say it's b/c they are in c-usa and anyone can do that. if that is true then i have to ask why no other coach in c-usa has done it?

Also, The C-USA was very good up until this year. UAB, Cincy, Marquette, and Louisville, along with Memphis made the conference look very good!

when he got to memphis, they were just another one of those teams.

also, he didn't beat any c-usa teams to make it to the elite 8 this year

^exactly

Last time I checked it took a pretty good fucking coach to record those wins in the NCAA tournament. That's one area you can't criticize Kruk, conference be damned.

He scheduled very stong out of conference teams when he was at Umass and with memphis..............

http://proxy.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=2338081

Quote :
"Is it 1996 all over again? Memphis coach John Calipari sees the similarities.

When he was the coach at UMass, Calipari scheduled everyone he could, constantly trying to upgrade the team's schedule because he knew the Atlantic 10 would bring the power rating down. In '96, his Minutemen landed a No. 1 seed and reached the Final Four.

Scheduling to land a top seed is exactly what Calipari did with Memphis this season. The Tigers didn't shy away from anyone. Conference USA, raided by the Big East, added some middling teams that weren't going to help the power rating, so it's no surprise that once Memphis got into conference play, its strength of schedule plummeted. "

but he does the strong OOC scheduling as a response to being in weak conferences...
will he continue to do that here?
or maybe tone it down a little...
