I meant to post this earlier prior to the decision but I feel Fowler has been doing a great job on this coaching search. He has approached two A list coaches who both mulled the decision prior to committing to stay at their respective programs. At this point you couldn’t ask for much more and you certainly can’t blame Fowler for these two coaches not coming to State. He has kept mum about who is going after and has been able to pool the necessary resources to collect nice looking coaching packages for the candidates.

The fact of the matter is Herb left the program in unfavorable terms to many in the media and coaching community, yet Fowler still approached the candidates that not only many said would say no outright, but that the fans desired to see become NC State’s next coach. Whatever the factors that are involved in hiring a coach at this level for that inspiring coach, you can’t blame Fowler for that person not signing the contract here. Here is Fowler continuing his game plan and finding the right coach that would be the right fit at NC State.

This is a serious question. Is it now time for Lee Fowler to publically address the fans and give some sort of information about the search? It appears that the front office lacks the ability to close a deal. I want some answers and not the general pr bullshit about how they are working on getting a coach. Who is next? Why did the deals fall through. Someone inform us the fans, alumni, boosters, and students.

The deals could have fallen through for various reason. In Barnes, had we approached him in aother year where he didn't have a the type of recruiting class that is coming and shaping his team up to make a Final Four run, it could have been very likely that Barnes would have been our coach. I don't blame Barnes for not leaving Texas, but the fact that he prolonged his decision showed that is wasn't an easy one for him to make.

Calapari on the other hand appears to have used State to up his salary at Memphis. However, I don't think it is good for Lee to have to explain everything or further comprimise his ability to perform a search at this level. I mean did any other AD come out right to the fans to announce every move they would be doing?

I don't know but I will leave that discussion to the speculation threads. I feel alot people are quick to blame Fowler for not landing a coach right now, when I don't see how that could be the case.

hell from our standpoint right now, it looks like we're gettin played like a $2 whore. thats twice a big name has gotten a salary boost at his current job by being "interested" in us. if things are any different than this, ie calipari was all but at the signing table with Fowler before he backed out, i've yet to hear about it.

and don't tell me "my sources close to so and so said the athletics higher ups were really angered by calipari." i don't fucking care what your sources say, unless your source is Oblinger, Fowler or Murphy.

At this point if I were Fowler I would be going after a B list candidate like Gillispie or Tom Crean. I don't think going after an "A" lister at this point can be accepted. We tried to hit a home run, now let's just at least get to third base.

It seems that Fred Barakat is an assistant ACC Commissioner and is pretty pissed about what happened with Calipari. I wonder how much the ACC plays a role in finding coaches?

The problem is that Lee Folwer is acting like a boy-crazy middle school girl, going from one crush to the next. He goes all in every time only to get shot down each time. What he should be doing is stringing along the whole list simutaneously and only revealing his intended choice once they've agreed. This search has a major case of tunnel vision. Why weren't his people talking to five different coaches at once? Fowler needs to learn how to multi-task and keep the search private, then we wouldn't be the laughing stock of the NCAA like we are right now.

I don't think so. Lee Fowler had his phone ringing from Calipari’s friends trying to get his name in the door while Fowler focused on Barnes. Calipari seemed to be claiming that he truly wanted to come to State, so I don’t blame him placing his focus on just Calipari the way he did. I doubt any other AD worth his money would have done it differently. I would think with coaches with as big of egos as these would find out that Fowler is networking with other coaches while talking to them they would pull out.

It's not my fault the thread was revived 9 days later by another poster.

Anyway, this is a thread dedicated to Lee Fowler and his job about involving the search. Not a speculation on who will become the head coach or a rumor mill for who has been contacted or not. All the other threads revolve around those issues.

the only thing he seems to have done well now is that he figured out how to keep the monkey's from getting any new information...
other than that, he failed to get TWO people to accept jobs that would have paid over 2 million a year... frankly, that doesn't sound great...

i honestly feel that he was never serious about Barnes or Calipari, just trying to appease the fanbase and media by going for them... i'm interested to see who he gets, but if it's a Kruger type (no improvement over Sendek) then Fowler's head needs to be checked
