Nice example of broad-based generalization and the defeatist attitude. I'm sure Barnes and Calipari conducted extensive media research, specifically the red neck fan base that you so aptly identify, and decided that Herb was the topic of too much local scrutiny and, in a show of solidarity, decided to stick it to the collective hillbillies of Moo U. Thanks for putting things in perspective, I now have a clearer understanding of all things mediocre that has gone on for the last decade.

there is a huge difference between criticism and what herb dealt with. 90% of our fanbase turned on him.

look at calipari's numbers in the tournament the past 5 years. he didn't even make it every year. yet we're all chompin at the bit here tryin to get cal. herb gave us a better chance to win the title over the past 5 years than cal gave memphis. you have NO chance if you can't make the tournament.

i've lost respect for our fanbase for what they did to herb. i was hoping we would end up with a coach everyone wanted so we could at least be reunited, but the chances of that are looking worse with each passing day.

What the fuck? I’m tired of people saying our fans ran off Herb. That's fucking asinine. And that's not a factor in why Barnes and Calipari did not take our offer. Intelligent people, which I think they probably are, know you cannot stigmatize an entire fan base based on a few drunk college kids that boo the coach after a disappointing loss no less. The whole resentment towards Sendek by the fans was induced and sensationalized by the media and message boards like this. Lots of smaller universities don't have outlets like this and lots of local papers in college towns are not full of journalists from their rival and would not constantly publish negative letters from fans about the coach.

I'll admit I think Sendek was and awful in-game strategist, but I never wanted him to lose just so he would get fired, I just wanted him to get fucking better and win more tight, tourney, and rivalry games. This is typical of a fan, but I don't care that he left and I don’t blame the fans for wanting the same thing and speaking their mind about. Nobody ever maligned him as a person, and if he can't take some criticism related to what he’s getting paid for, from his constituency then fuck him.

So I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and lets say the fans were a factor in his departure even though he stated if we would have matched the ASU offer he would have stayed. Think about it, over half the country including me hates GW Bush and writes negative literature about him. But what if he quit his term early because of it, would you be blaming the citizens that talked shit about him. No, you would be saying he was a weak leader not fit to hold public office where such criticism is commonplace, and obviously should have not been in office in the first place.

So tell me what makes it so righteous and customary for a sports fan base to kiss their coaches ass, when public officials are expect to be strictly scrutinized. Actions taken and success in both cases is going to be subjective. So you my friends that are pissed at the fans that criticized Sendek are analogous to fascist. Moral of the story is shut the fuck up and move on. Thank you.

and thanks for illustrating another point of mine. i'm one of the fans who have grown up going to games, go to games now, and will continue to go to games until i die. i'm not in it just for four years. i'm a lifelong state fan.

we want what's ultimately best for our program in the long run. not just next year. we want championships in the future. something herb has shown he would never get us.
