Yeah.

I drive an inefficient car. I'll drive it more efficiently because 10 cents hurts more.

I changed the way/amount I drive when prices hit $2.20

Since that point I have driven as little as absolutely possible.

i tried to sell my xterra last year b/c of gas prices but couldn't...no one wants an SUV.
i'm gonna trade it in within the next 6-8 months and get something smaller with better gas mileage

I can't really do much, I drive a car that I can get ~200 miles on a tank of gas which is alright, but there isn't much else i can do as far as public transportation, none of it goes where I need it, and I really only drive to work (when I have a job) and school and there's not much else I can cut back on, so it kind of sucks. I carpool if I go somewhere that others need to go to also. But the only thing holding me back is going from city to city. I can use public transportation just fine in Raleigh, but once you try to leave Raleigh and go to another city without a car and rely just on public transportation it gets a little hairy, if not impossible.

can't afford a new car, can't afford to miss school or work, so gas prices wont affect my driving regardless of how high the prices go... it will just continually cut down my budget for other things

out of curiosity i decided to see what my mileage was if i drove like i was supposed to
its 33mpg
i usually get 21mpg

if gas hits $3 i might change, but id rather just pay a premium to enjoy driving

Yes...but it's not the only factor. I'd drive frugally and carpool when possible, simply for the sake of conservation.

But when I buy a car this summer, it's likely going to be a smaller sedan of sorts, instead of the truck that i REALLY want.

I know I'm not the only one when I was smaller and asked to draw the world in 15 years to say we were going to be like the Jetsons. Too bad it didn't happen.

No, I just traded my economy subcompact car for a small SUV, and average 80 miles a day. Fuel economy was a consideration, but I was sick of having a vehicle that was way too underpowered for my needs. 26mpg higway still isn't horrible though.

^^ funny and true point.

Anyway, I drive an extremely inefficent car. 12 mpg...and I drive with my fuel economy in mind- constantly. In fact, my car has an "economy guage" that is pretty much in compliment with the tacometer. But anyway, you can't accelerate quickly in my car.

I'm thinking about going with a used VW in the next year or two to replace my 4-cylinder Ranger and get the TDI engine and go greasel. About 6 restuarants in town and nobody in this little town has even heard of greasal. So I think I'm gonna save up some dough to setup the car and the conversion system.

Land Rover (basically any of them), jacked up Wrangler, Escalade/Suburban, jacked up 4x4 pickup, Excursion, 69 Chevelle SS, the list is actually really long

Ford is counting on you!

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/04/12/060412200622.3j2d0yzp.html

Quote :
"Americans will buy SUVs even if gas hits four dollars a gallon: Ford

A core group of US consumers will continue to buy large sports utility vehicles (SUVs) even if gasoline prices rise to four dollars a gallon and stay that way, a senior executive at the Ford Motor Company said.

"There is a certain portion of the marketplace and customers who want that flexibility that is provided with a traditional SUV," Mark Fields, president of the automaker's Americas division, said during a conference with analysts.

"So I don't think our strategy would change too much."

High gasoline (petrol) prices, which currently top three dollars a gallon in some critical US retail markets, have already cut into sales of Ford's gas-guzzling large SUVs.

Fields said the company had forecast prices to be in the 2.50 to three dollar range this year and as a result has focused on expanding sales of cars and smaller more fuel-efficient crossover sports utility vehicles.

Fields said the automaker is also on track to sell 900,000 of its F-series trucks this year.

"That's more than double the sales of the industry's best-selling car," he told analysts.

A shift away from highly profitable sports utility vehicles has played a large role in the massive financial losses Ford's North American automotive sector posted last year.

The company reacted with a plan to shutter 14 plants, lay off up to 30,000 workers and to change the way it does business.

Fields reiterated the company's commitment to returning its North American operations to profitability by 2008 and to stabilizing its declining US market share.

"We believe our plan is comprehensive and we are starting to make progress," Fields said. "We know there's still a lot of work to do."

Fields said the company's objective is "to first stop the rate of loss of share and ultimately grow it," but he would not comment on whether he anticipated Ford would be able to regain market share from Asian rivals or would have to battle it out with domestic automakers General Motors and Chrysler.

He said the company had done significant market share research and found that a large group of customers were committed to buying American brands if the automakers were able to deliver attractive products.

"There is a certain core of customers who buy imports and will only buy imports," he acknowledged.

When asked whether recent credit ratings downgrades have affected the company's ability to offer customers competitive financing options due to rising costs for financing the company's massive debt load, Fields said the company's financial branch "continues to have a very strong liquidity position and funding flexibility.

"I'm very confident we have the resources to support our business going forward but as you know that continues to play out." "

And that's one of the reasons the Japanese will continue to kick our automobile-producing asses...

I'm picking up my 1986 volkswagon golf today... it gets >30mpg... has no AC, power steering, radio, is loud as crap, and a complete babe repulsion system... but its free-$200 depending on if I want to keep it forever.

I reduced the amount I drive and am planning to get a more efficient car when the one I'm driving now is no longer viable. I also shift at 1500 rmp instead of 3000 or so like I did when I was 17. That adds some gas mileage.
