Ok, I'm sure you guys hate questions like this, but I did do a search and couldn't find a resource to answer my question.
I have a 1997 Honda Civic.
My mechanic says that I should have my 150,000 mile tune up done; the car currently has 158k...
now, here's the thing; I love my mechanic to death-- he's always done a great job, is super polite, and very patient with me. As much as I'd love to give him $350, I don't really have that kind of money right now. I know that having regular maintenance done can save me more in the future, but I feel like I might be able to do some of the stuff myself.
HOWEVER, I can't seem to find any information on what needs to be done for this 150,000 mile tune up. I searched Honda.com (they really only seemed to have newer years listed, anyway). I searched google. Maybe it's because I'm being too specific in my searches, but I can't find anything about what my car would need done at 150,000 miles.
Can someone give me a suggestion on where to find this info? Or, if you happen to know it, post a checklist for me? I'm not going to call my mechanic and ask, cause he'll know that I'm just going to try and wiggle my way out of having him do some of it and then I'll feel guilty.

spark plugs (maybe plug wires too) cap + rotor air filter fuel filter oil + oil filter radiator flush timing belt

^^ I already had the timing belt done and that alone was about $350...
I'm told timing belt for my car is a 105,000 mile thing, although mine was done when I bought it at... 153k? I think. So, I'm good on that for a while.
So, with that out of the way, why would those other things cost $350 at $65 a hour for labor?

The maintenance schedule only goes up to 120,000 miles... Should I just look at 120k or one of the others? (like 30k... cause 120k + 30k = 150k )4/12/2006 8:35:45 PM |

hmmmm
plugs and wires are easy. the cap and rotor, well the cap is easy, and most likely YOU will strip the rotor, so let someone else do that.
the fuel filter, yeah you'll probably strip that bolt also, so let someone else do that.
oil filter, you might end up stabbing the son of a bitch, but it will be messy, so if you want a clean job, let someone else do it.
radiator flush, you'll probably do it right after you drove like 30 miles and burn the hell out of yourself and kick your car. 4/12/2006 11:50:58 PM |

a 150,000 mile tuneup is the same as a 30,000 mile tuneup
