He is a moron, he wont shut close and enforce the border, he supports worker programs for the fuckin illegals, he is NOT a fiscal conservative, he has barely done any social conservative things during his time, he is a moron, he isnt very smart, his foreign policy is generally pretty shitty, he fucked up the iraq war, he is a moron, he is going to cost republicans seats (although the republican party is suckin ass as a whole these days), did i mention he is a moron.
about the only thing he has done that i like is appoint conservative judges to the supreme court. 4/13/2006 6:06:09 PM |

a little off topic but...
the reason a lot of people voted W in the last election was b/c "it's bad for the war effort to change leaders during the war." What the hell are these people gonna do in 2008 when we're still in Iraq? Just wonderin'. 4/13/2006 6:17:07 PM |

^^^I think that was political maneuvering.

i doubt that "changing leaders during a time of war" was the reason people voted for bush. they voted for him because kerry failed to convince them he would do a better job, and he failed to seperate his positions from bush on the things everyone knew bush had fucked up.
but Republican18's problems are not new. we knew all of that before. hell most of it we could have predicted in 2000. 4/13/2006 6:24:02 PM |

yeah, there really isn't much to discuss.
I'm wondering if we really might have the best case scenario, though...the only thing I can really think of that the White House has had much to say about for a while is immigration reform. If we just kinda go stagnant for the next 2 years, that might not be the worst thing.4/13/2006 6:31:29 PM |

i have a very strong political leaning towards republicans grumpy, its just that the party hasnt been doing jack shit in two central areas and are not living up to true conservative ideals. one is being fiscal ly conservative and the other is being strong on closing the border and protecting america. if they did these two things id be much happier. and for the record, bush is still a moron 4/14/2006 1:56:48 AM |

Even the anti-immigration or anti-illegal folks on here will recognize his comments above and elsewhere for the racist slander they are. If I don't get the personal joy of shovelling you onto the ashe heap, I can take joy in knowing that my descendants will. The Western world grows tired of your kind. Here, in Europe, and elsewhere, you and yours have found your Alamo (as it were) in immigration. I am confident that the metaphor will prove itself thoroughly accurate and that you will be eradicated to the last relevant man.
You don't fucking deserve your tag. You might as well be Steve18. In the final analysis, you will be judged little differently.

being a little bit of a xenophobe is pretty standard for a conservative
i'm not making accusations
this is just standard conservative thought
we're seeing a scism between republicans who care about companies (Bush and associates) and real conservatives (smaller governments, immigration enforcements, etc.)
and both sides try as hard as they can to placate to the lowest common denominator of the party, the christian right 4/14/2006 9:49:40 AM |

^^ What do you expect? Outside of a few countries, foreigners are usually hostile to what we hold most dear (liberty). Now, bring in some people from Hong Kong and we'll have a line-dancing contest and eat BBQ.
Meanwhile, Democrats are always happy with foreigners. Most other nations are as socialist and protectionist as the Democrats wish America was. 4/14/2006 10:53:33 AM |

I don't hate him so much as I hate his administration. However, he's ultimately accountable for the entire administration.
So basically, he wasted a shitload of our tax money on this war that has served no purpose. It's sad that Clinton was more fiscally conservative than Georgie could ever hope to be. 4/14/2006 1:08:45 PM |

^ With you all the way.
As a voter of GW, I feel betrayed. THe war was unnecessary to protect the homeland, but protecting the homeland wasn't important enough to let our ports' security be handed over to a middle eastern country.
Clinton had a balanced budget. George hasn't even come close.
Hardly a conservative. I'm no longer Republican because the Republican party left it's conservative roots. 4/14/2006 1:19:11 PM |

America is differnet when it comes to immigration. European societies have been for centuries homogenous. We have, since inception, been a nation of immigrants. I think it's hypocritical that we will turn people away when our nation was built on the backs of immigrants. We need new laws. If the law to get a visa in this country took less time than 7 years, then maybe there wouldn't be an incentive to jump a border.
I am for a guest worker program. Like Reagan said 15 years ago: "if the city had to have walls, the walls were open for anyone with the will and the way to get here."
I follow that now. I think multiculturalism in our country further defines American culture. 4/14/2006 1:52:00 PM |

My dad and I fight about immigration a lot. He literally thinks we should string them up and send them back. He forgets that his father was an Italian immigrant who came to America on the boat bound for Staten Island.
He gives me the usual, "they weren't here for destructive purposes. They were here to make this country great." And I respond, as someone with a bit of history knowledge, that the Italians and the Irish immigration waves of the early 20th were met with similar racial slurs than are the Mexicans of today. The Italians living in the tenaments weren't exactly high rolling, classy citizens. Nonetheless, off the backs of their labor, America was built. Off the backs of the Mexican immigrants, America is being built.
I tell him that nothing would stop me, if my wife and children were starving, from jumping any border in any land to feed them. He says he wouldn't, he would do it legally. I'd ask him if he'd let me suffer for 7 years until he got a green card. Yes, he replies. Then I tell him that anyone who would let their children starve is a soul-less, cold human being. These people are extremelly family oriented (most) and would do anything to help their immediate and extended families, a value long lost by Americans. If the wait was 2 months to get a green card, maybe there would be less incentive to jump the border and actually do it legally. We could then know who is here and the immigrants would be free to work and pay taxes and the rest of the jazz that comes with migrant workers.
I then say, "I love you too, Dad." and hang up. Thanksgiving is an interesting time in my family. 4/14/2006 2:09:36 PM |

yeah, Mexicans are good to go.
Another plug for them:
When I was in college, I worked part time at the Advance Auto Parts on Western Blvd. The thing about the job that really sucked was dealing with the customer base...people, especially the demographic that store really caters to, are quite often a real pain in the ass.
In the two years I worked there, I don't remember a single instance of a Mexican customer being an asspain in any way whatsoever, other than sometimes not speaking English, and with a little makeshift Pictionary, Charades, broken English, and a few words of Spanish, we could almost always communicate what we needed to, and they're always very gracious that you put forth a minimal effort to help them out. 4/14/2006 2:58:03 PM |

Yeah, Mexicans are pretty tranquil people. LA gangs and such are brutal but they tend to only fight each other from what I know of it. It may be that I haven't been around a lot of Mexicans but to my knowledge I've never seen one show hostility without being threatened first. 4/14/2006 3:05:57 PM |

Not to say they're God's chosen people or anything, but there are bad apples in every bunch. Al Capone for the Italians, gang lords for the Mexicans. Most of them just want to make ends meet back home. I respect that. If they want to do that while working for $2/hr picking cabbage so that I can buy it for 99c a piece, then that's alright by me, alright by them, and should be alright for anyone else. 4/14/2006 4:00:53 PM |
