ok i got a new system from newegg, but after putting it together and turning it on, the monitor doesn't wake up. the monitor is my old one i'm using right now, tried 2 different psu's, both ports on the card, with 2 different analog adapters. this narrows it down to either a DOA vid card or mobo. however, this being my first pci 16x, i have no other mobo to test the card or another card to test the mobo.

if anyone on or near campus has a pci 16x slot i can try my 7800 in to prove it's infact the faulty piece it would be much appreciated.

i've also tried using the jumpers to reset the bios, no change.

well... it should at least wake up the monitor without ANY ram shouldn't it? there are no beeps, and no way to edit bios without a display.

if there are no beep codes you either have a short, or a dead motherboard

well the mobo i use now is an asus as well, and it doesn't beep on starting up, are you sure it's default to beep on post in the bios?

(i've just tried both small speakers from both cases in my working mobo, and neither beep. chances of both speakers being dead seem pretty low.)

make sure ALL of the cables are plugged into the mobo as well. I built a new one and forgot to plug in the 4-plug ATX power supply cable.....

lol yea everything is in... just trying to blame vid card or mobo.

i don't think i can blame mobo from lack of beeps, cause the one i'm typing from right now doesn't beep on either of the case speakers.

bttt

update: apparently my mobo does not suport the processor i got according to asus... i have the intel 641 and the support guy said that my mobo will never support it regardless of the bios revision. i can't find on usa.asus.com or newegg.com a list of compatible processors for each mobo... does such a list exist?

im going to have to pick out a new mobo, and i dont' want the same result.
