it really sucks. it sucks mega-badd. I used to really love it like back in 95-96 . . . what happened? the only reason i think people buy rap today is for the irony of it. it's like yeah I live in the surburbs and go to college, but i enjoy the irony of listening to something so stupid.

the problem is the mainstream used to be good, THE MAINSTREAM used to be good

THE SHIT is trash. point blank. there's no longer substance. i'm not downing all rap (no homo). honestly the last album I bought was Lil' Wayne The Carter II and he has some flashes of lyrical content on it, but because of the way it has to be marketed and dumbed down albums are filled with filler and trash. the art form is ruined it sucks. and I thought the Common Be album was okay at best. Just cause he's an earthworm or this new age vegan type rap doesn't mean I'd enjoy it. The last good album I mean entire album as an offering was Jay-Z's The Black Album.

Its all about what type of rap you like...I mean I will agree its not what it used to be but rap as a whole doesn't suck. I mean you gone have underground heads that think rap sucks cuz mainstream rappers ain't really talkin about shit and its easier to make it while people who like mainstream rap are not going to listen to any underground acts. Rap has always been diverse and each sub genre of rap has had or will have its time. Rap started off as party music. Its just goin in a circle. Just dance music and the south is at the fore front now. I'm not a fan but I can't say it sucks as a whole.

Yeah, you're completely right. But, it seems these days that the "public face" of rap is all the crappy rappers, and that's what people are going to see as "rap music." If people differentiated the categories they were talking about, instead of generalizing, there would be very few arguments. "Rap music" as most people who don't listen to it see it, IS the crappy artists. The point of this thread is to ask why is this? Who is the ones promoting all this crappy music?
