IMDB: http://imdb.com/title/tt0468565/

TSOTSI is a thrilling, provocative look at life in the ghettos outside present-day Johannesburg. Presley Chweneyagae stars as the title character, a teenager with a killer stare who lives alone in a ramshackle room in a poor shantytown, where he pulls off petty crimes with the help of three compatriots--Boston, Butcher, and Aap. After they stab a man to death on the subway and Tsotsi (which means "thug") beats up Boston for trying to find out about his past, Tsotsi runs off to a wealthy section of the city, shoots a woman, and steals her car. Only later does he discover that there is a baby in the back seat--and decides to keep it for himself.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Feature. Winner of the Audience Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Winner of the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. Winner of Best Feature Film and the Audience Award at the AFI Film Festival. This movie has laurels coming out of its ass. It's got an 81% on RottenTomatoes and 7.5 on IMDB.

I haven't seen it yet, but everything I hear about it is so good. It's supposed to be really gritty and dark, but kind of uplifting at the same time. It's gotten a lot of acclaim for having an accurate portrayal of South African urban life. Should be coming out next week.

I saw it and I wasn't too impressed. I found the main characters difficult to relate to and I didn't find the story particularly compelling.

I'm taking South African Literature this semester and we watched Tsotsi a few weeks ago. It deals with a lot of relevant issues and I think it is probably accurate of South Africa.

I have a hard time deciding if I actually like movies that are shown in class because it's just nice to watch movies in class, so I'm not sure if I would recommend it. It was probably the most interesting movie we've watched so far(out of Sarafina, Boesman & Lena, and Yesterday). I really liked the music in it though, Kwaila I think.

^ Why would you rep a movie that has such a shitty trailer then.

Just b/c the tomatometer tells you its good doesnt mean you have to post about this shitty movie.

Paradise Now was robbed of the oscar

Are you fucking joking? You want me to judge a movie on the voiceover in the trailer?

p.s. Paradise Now was all right. I'm not saying I didn't like it, but it didn't change my life or anything. Wasn't really anything new.

well then, watch the movie first then form your own opinion and then if you like it post about it.

Any asshole can go on imdb and rottentomato or even metacritic and find movies with high scores and post about them.

I am definitely the only person to ever post about a movie before it's come out.

I thought about seeing this. Mainly because I like Mark Mathabane novels, I guess.

Is it just me, or is the Galaxy's front page different?

It appears the background is now white instead of black.

But we've still got that cutting-edge 1996 design going on.

The only Coca Cola commercial I'd play is that crazy French one about the time traveller, because it kicks major ass.
