May 6-7 at the fairgrounds; http://dixiegunandknifeshow.tripod.com/coupon.htm <-- Dollar off coupon
This'll be my first gun show; I'd especially like to be able to find a Kahr P9 for gunbroker/gunsamerica type prices, only, you know, without having to deal with shipping For those who have been to shows, how likely is this? I've been told that the prices are usually good deals, but I don't know HOW good the deals are. Should I bring cash or will most vendors usually take credit cards/checks? Also, is it best to go on the first day or is the selection usually the same both days?
I pick up my purchase permits on Thursday
Thanks!

Dealer prices at the gun show are less than Davi's but that's not saying much. You can find some good deals if you look around but the selection and prices aren't that great on average. 4/17/2006 2:17:03 AM |

LOL, yeah those fuckers want $700 for the Kahr I'm looking at. I've seen it on GA and GB for $425 and up (used is fine with me). I'm hoping I can find something close to that at the show; and if they have the rifle I want, I'll be in heaven, but I'm not counting on it.
Also, no one answered my question-- DO I need to bring cash or will most places take visa/checks?4/17/2006 8:17:32 PM |
gunguy All American 775 Posts user info edit post |
cash is the best policy, some times they'll charge like 3-6% for a credit card, i don't know about debit. but u can normally get a better deal with cash, plus if u find an individual with what u want u can throw down some cash and it can be very tempting/persuasive.... 4/17/2006 8:33:50 PM |

Didn't read the rest of the thread but I'm a vendor at gunshows (including the Raleigh one) so I can speak from experience here:
1.) Not sure if the big gun dealers will be there (they've been dropping out of the S&D and C&E shows like flies mainly because of oversaturation) but if they are, either you can ask them if they have it in stock elsewhere or if they know others who have 'em. Usually they're pretty honest about the competition (because we all get along).
2.) The prices are usually much lower than retail, more than 20%, because smaller venders are competeting directly with retail, and are much more flexible (or at least we are).
3.) Lots of vendors, especially the bigger ones, use credit card machines. We just got one now that we can afford the monthly payments. However, other vendors prefer cash to avoid "tax complications", or just so they can get the money right in their pocket. If you're talking guns, I'm pretty sure they'll have credit card machines because people usually don't stroll around with hundreds of bucks in their pockets (though sometimes they do and it can be really awefully nice when they're compulsive buyers). Checks are much more risky so a lot of them don't accept them, though we do when we have a repeat client.
4.) Again, it depends on the day. If you get a 3-day show, there is usually nobody there and the vendors are out of their minds trying to earn enough dough to pay for tables ($60/table), gas, hotel and food, so they'll break you some awesome deals, and you get the benefit of being the first pig at the trough. Some dealers put all their shit out on the table like we do, and others have backup merchandise and just replenish when the selection gets low. I'm the coffee gopher for a lot of the guys (I get coffee for 'em) but I also run out to the vans when they're busy, so I know which vendors carry what and where, but I don't know about guns.
So: 1.) Ask around and bring a notepad. 2.) Don't let the vendors bully you; they're independent and can be Jewed (especially if you're polite and professional) 3.) Bring a credit card or cash 4.) Get there early and stay late
And 5.) Tell as many people as you can about this because the last show in Charlotte almost put us out of business and we need a break here. We sell Hen & Rooster bowies about 20%-30% less than retail regularly, and we're distributors so we can go lower. It's genuine stag handles, 440C German stainless steel, hand-fit and hand-polished in Toledo Spain (except for a few put together in Germany and they're like 20% more than the biggest ones there because of the embargo on red stag) and we sell 'em so cheap even hunters can use 'em. 4/17/2006 8:57:58 PM |

oh man, depends on what you want... say a bushmaster 20' standard barrel, run of the mill could be gotten for about 750 or so, least i wouldnt give more for that.
I just picked up a nearly new Colt M4 carbine 16' barrel (sporter, not gov) for 1300, but Colts always run a lot more and the 6 pos stock was a damn lot more till the assault weapons ban came down.
holler at me if you're goin and when you're goin and if im there, ill take a look with ya, i certainly dont know it all, or nearly that, but i can help... 4/18/2006 1:53:42 AM |

i never use wolf ammo, it has that green varnish on it so it'll be noncorrosive and if u rapid fire it'll heat up the varnish and melt it leaving it in ur bore if a round is in the chamber when the gun cools down the round is basically glued in there.
also ed's gun shop mentioned above has always had a booth at the show.

Umm..."corrosive" has to do with primers. Wolf uses LAQUER (not varnish) on their cases because without it, the steel cases will bind up in chambers—steel doesn't have the same expansion/contraction behavior as brass.
Also, they use polymer coatings now, which I hear are much better about not running and gooping up chambers. 4/18/2006 11:47:26 AM |

Paris (the Trojan ranger) was considered more effeminate (as archers & all range weapon users in general were of ancient Greek culture) because they fought from a distance… which is why its such a big deal that the girly man killed the guy who could beat him up in a real fight.
"guns cause violence like flies cause garbage" Flies might not cause the garbage, but they can make the situation worse though, especially when they are effeminate flies that have to fight from a distance.

I felt the same way after Tony switched me over from a .22 to a .38 for the first time. I was sort of tipsy when I first shot the S&W revolver but I didn't have ear or eye protection and after that first wave hit my eardrums I was deaf for a while afterwards, and all my shots were off-center (the first one was the best, needless to say). And then when I went inside to dry-fire and work my trigger finger some more, I flinched like nobody's business! The best way to work out the flinching, I hear, is to mix blanks in with the clip/revolver. 4/18/2006 7:59:14 PM |

^my brother in the Coast Guard told me that he had a problem with trigger flinch and the instructor would take his gun, remove the magazine and either load a round or not load a round a couple times.
