I saw that on the sports reporters yesterday. He went so far as to suggest race as the reason why, since Whittenburg turned 2 programs around (well, has fordham on the way), and not that he didn't graduate. Kinda surprised me.

Well obviously race isn't an issue since supposedly Haith is high up the list, the only complications with him is that he is already an ACC coach and conference officials would look down on raiding a fellow school.

I don’t blame Fowler for not going after Wittenberg also, we don’t need a Doh’ situation here, and there is but so much room to shove a coach in an Assistant AD position.

We'll hire Whitt down the road if he's successful. He's just not ready.

Doherty was ran off becuase he burned too many bridges with the UNC boosters/alums/coaches

(Such as firing Dean's entire long-time staff...like Ford.... and kicking Dean Smiff out of his own office so he could have it...while Dean was forced to move down the hall.)

Doubt Whitt would have that problem

yeah I doubt Whitt would have the same problems as Doh, I only brought up Doh' only as the most recent example of an alumnus being run off by the fanbase when he doest produce the desired results at an early stage in their coaching career.

omg state is conducting a search based on merit rather than race and trying to find the best fit?!?!?!?! I like the rules the nfl has about minority coaches, and i would love for state to have a black coach, but that is only because i would like to see us hire haith.

Did he actually say that in his article?... That Whittenburg didnt graduate from NCSU? If so he should also be shot. They said that on WRAL a week ago. Whittenburg graduated from State in 1984.
