i'm currently in a 4 bedroom apt. (4 girls) moving in with my boyfriend to a 2 bedroom apt... (2 bdrm since we will have extra space for our stuff, not much more than a 1 bdrm, etc.) and I am not sure what to expect the power/light bill to be. Right now, we are paying about $130/month on power, but my roommates tend to leave lights on, keep the place really cold,4 of us using hair dryers, etc... The apt. is about 850 sq. ft and neither of us are huge energy users... So, what can i expect to pay for a 2 bdrm? estimations are appreciated 4/17/2006 9:40:27 PM |

So the present one is 850 sq ft? Or is that the new one?
What's the square footage for both apartments?
I'm in a 960 sq ft 2br/2ba apartment. Our energy bill last month was $77 I think. It's usually closer to $85 or 90. 4/17/2006 9:43:47 PM |

Well, I'd guess that if you conserve as much as I try to (probably below average electricity usage, but not super-psycho-conservative), maybe it'd be $60-80 average, spiking up toward $110 on those really bad super hot months. 4/17/2006 9:51:18 PM |

I lived in a 1100 sq ft townhouse and the electric bill was only about $80 a month, but it runs $60 in the 750 sq ft one bedroom that I'm in now. It really depends on location as well as size, as some apartment complexes have better heating/cooling units and are more energy efficient than others.
^ That rule really doesn't work for everyone. I've been living with my boyfriend for nine months now without a problem. But that's not the point of this thread. ] 4/17/2006 10:03:55 PM |

You used to be able to called progress energy and get an average monthly cost for that address over the last year. Not sure if you can still do that, but i was able to do it a few years ago. That might gie you a rough estimate on the new place.
Also, is heat electric or gas? Is the new place 1 story or 2 (heat rises, A/C doesn't like to)? Is it an end unit (middle units are more energy efficient)?
We have a middle unit, 2 story townhouse, 1000 sq ft., electric heat and central air. If we don't try to save energy, our bill is about $80. When we try real hard to be frugal we can get it down to $65.
Hope that helps... 4/17/2006 10:16:51 PM |

wow, i live in a 3 bedroom with 2 other girls (and their boyfriends), we never have the air or heat on, and ours averages like 90.
that sucks. 4/17/2006 10:20:39 PM |

it completely depends on the age of the apartment, the quality of construction and whether its a 1 or 2 story place. shade trees also help during the summer. if its two story (and if its as old as the one i'm about to move out of) you'll never be able to keep the upstairs cool. i spent all of last summer downstairs.
like someone said above, call progress energy. the customer service rep will be able to tell you the highs and lows in the past year or two, as well as a general average payment. 4/17/2006 10:44:55 PM |

^^^electric. and don't know if it will be on top or bottom floor, but it will be an end unit. (haven't gone to see the exact one yet, was on the waiting list) ^thanks. [Edited on April 17, 2006 at 10:46 PM. Reason : ^]

be sure you check the a/c intake filter yourself. I lived in a place that would never change them, the first June I was there it was so caked with dust my power bill was $300... (the complex had put a notice on our door saying it would be changed in april, we hid the cat and everything) 4/17/2006 10:54:42 PM |

I'm not in Raleigh anymore ... how much per kWh is it? I've been curios if since I've moved I'm actually using less power or if Raleigh simply charges more. 4/18/2006 6:45:31 PM |

per kWh is .08575. If you call with the exact address you can get the estimated over the past year. If you dont know the exact address PM me the complex or wherever and I'll try to look a few up for you to give you an idea.4/18/2006 8:47:27 PM |
