"No. 77 NC State 23 ... South Carolina 22, November 1, 1986
At the time: NC State was in the midst of a strong first season under head coach Dick Sheridan with a 5-1-1 record and a two-game winning stream after a 27-3 win over a good Clemson team. South Carolina was going nowhere fast with a 2-4-1 record and one of the wins over DI-AA Western Carolina.
The setup: NC State was up 17-3 going into halftime but lost starting QB Erik Kramer early in the second half to a leg injury. USC's Todd Ellis hooked up with Sterling Sharpe for a touchdown and it became a ballgame again at 17-13. Kramer came back in the game, but he fired two interceptions in the fourth quarter leading to Gamecock points. Ellis ran for a one-yard score, and USC was up 22-17 late with the ball with 2:13 to play and with NC State out of timeouts. It should've been over. A handoff followed by two kneel-downs made it fourth down for USC on its own 24 with :30 to play (thanks to a controversial clock stoppage after first down). NC State got the ball back on the USC 39 with :24 to play after a 15-yard punt, but couldn't do anything as Kramer was sacked on third down and the clock ran out. However ...
The ending: ... there was a flag on the field. USC LB Kenneth Robinson was nailed with an offsides call. Many Gamecock fans had already stormed field, along with the players, but they had to be cleared for one final play. Kramer threw up a last-gasp pass into the end zone (as he aggravated his ankle injury) where Danny Peebles pushed off, leapt up and made the catch as USC safety Chris Major delivered a major shot. NC State won 23-22.
How they ended up: South Carolina lost the following week to Florida State before beating Wake Forest and Tying Clemson to finish 3-6-2. NC State blew its shot at the ACC title the following week losing 20-16 to Virginia, but still went on to an 8-3-1 season finishing with a 25-24 Peach Bowl loss to Virginia Tech."

and also, their predicted outcome:

" 44. NC State 2005 Record: 7-5
Why to get excited: Many of the lumps taken on offense last year should pay off this season with Marcus Stone hopefully ready to become a solid quarterback and Andre Brown and Toney Baker forming a dangerous 1-2 rushing punch. Even with all the major NFL losses on defense, things shouldn’t be that bad with good tackles and a few good defensive backs to build around. Darrell Blackman should be among the nation’s best return men.
Why to be grouchy: You don’t get better by losing DE Mario Williams, DE Manny Lawson, LB Stephen Tulloch and CB Marcus Hudson off your defense. While the hope is for experience to turn into production on offense, the jury is still out on Stone, and especially the passing game with the top three pass catchers gone.
The number one thing to work on is: Third down conversions. The Wolfpack finished second-to-last in America, only ahead of Syracuse, converting 25.5%. It would be nice to get more from the punting game after finishing near the bottom of the ACC, and the national rankings, netting 32.76 yards per kick. While Blackman is a fantastic kickoff returner, he needs more room to move on punt returns.
Biggest offensive loss: WR Brian Clark
Biggest defensive loss: DE Mario Williams"

BUT MARCUS STONE IS A DUAL THREAT QUARTERBACK

Of course in this case that means the threat of throwing a pick and the threat of fumbling the ball....

Is this a joke?

44th no fucking way.

They didnt even mention we are losing McCargo. I mean gee he's only a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Do they really expect Stone to improve? Especially after losing our top 3 WR's and TE?

Do yourself a favor and dont get your hopes up, this is a bad team anyway you look at it...

Marcus Stone is 5-1

you know why?

because he can stay on the field long enough to let the defense rest

and he has the juevos to throw for more than 5 yards at a time, even if he fucks up

that is why Marcus is 5-1

we win with defense. the QB just needs to not be a liability, and add value whenever possible

sure we lost some studs

but do you seriously think other defensive players won't step up and be performers?

I think we won by the skin of our teeth last season when our defense was absolutely dominating teams.

I expect our defense to be pretty average this year.

And we coudlnt win with P-Riv and an average defense so I sure as fuck dont expect us to win with Stone's dumbass out there.

your forecast is assuming that Amato got dumber over time

and does not include the removal of the gigantic liability that was Mazzonne

I haven't seen anything that would contradict this statement.

And in case you didn't notice....we didn't have Mazzone last year. Trestman however...looked AWESOME.

RD

We have a light schedule.

7-5 is reasonable.

4 losses will probably be in conference.

i dont have the schedule in front of me but i remember it was extremely weak.

I dont see us winning more than 3 conference games though and i wouldnt be shocked if we won 2 or less.

Our out of conference schedule is a joke.

I also don't see is winning more than 3 conference games. But i'll throw a wild card for a good season out there if we put Greco out at QB and run a lot of option and just fuck around. But I know that's not going to happen.

Probably the first time I have ever agreed with the durham.

Amato hasn't shown me any ability to improve players very well or to do more with less like Sendek with the guys he recruits.

The only way we have a decent year is if every guy we have makes huge improvements in their ability and desire to win.

It ain't happening.
