ill sum up the responses youll get:
he was a criminal failure b/c the new deal was not in touch with our libertarian values. ww2 is what made him noteworthy and not a total failure due to the horrid new deal.
there, i think i summed up what lonesnark and earthdogg and theduke were probably going to have a circle jerk over in a second anyway.

nah, I don't really have a huge quarrel with FDR.
LBJ is where everything shit the bed.
I mean, I don't like the slippery slope it put us on, and I think that some things should've only been temporary, but all in all, I'm not an FDR hater.

JOSH: taxes ARE the dues you pay to live in a society.
because without society you're fucking worthless. think not? okay, go build some roads. go establish a police force to protect your community against crime. go institute an educational system, build your own farms and textile mills. go provide your own healthcare, and fire and emergency services. and more than that, be sure to provide for the sick, old, and infirm so that they can live with human dignity as members of the social group.
or better yet, go move your hateful self and your ugly family to some island, and save society the burden of having to provide for your sustenance when you grow old, get in an accident, become unemployed, develop cancer, or some other unfortunate event.
and by the way, you fucking welfare queen, GO PAY THE REAL VALUE of your state-subsidized higher education.

Roosevelt didnt appear out of thin air in 1932 to be elected president. he was Governor of New York before that. His disability was well known. his critics claimed that the country was in such bad shape that the strain of the presidency would be overwhelming for a man with his disability.
Hoover was so widely reviled, the Dems could have ran practically anyone against him and won. It was FDR's success as Governor of New York, and his landslide victory in 1930, inspired the Dems to nominate him.

nope. Youre the conductor who's conductance is measured in Siemens. G=I/E.

The receiver of this spermy goodness then chases the donor around the room while using both hands to remove the semen from their hair, in a motion suggestive of an overly animated symphony conductor. Stick is optional.

That is why I included the 1920s as well. The reason the Rich were paying so much less in the 1930s was the same reason they were paying so little in the early 1920s. It wasn't because they didn't exist but because of poor governmental policies whose net effect was to soak the middle-class.
However, it does explain why the economy never recovered: draconian tax rates levied against the nations consumers further erroded economic activity. Whole forms of middle-class taxation that had been elimited during the 1920s were re-instated with disasterous effects. Between 1931 and 1932 those earning less than $25,000 a year were paying three times as much in absolute terms ($51.6M vs $134M) dispite growing unemployment and falling economic activity.
Quote : | "President Hoover radically changed course from the low-tax policies of the 1920s with the Revenue Act of 1932. That law sharply increased individual tax rates at all income levels, with the top rate rising from 25 percent to 63 percent. Following Hoover, President Roosevelt signed into law a series of large tax increases for taxpayers at all income levels. At the bottom end, personal exemptions were reduced, and an earned income credit was eliminated." |
