If I had to guess I'd say it's because they used the Wiki engine.

^^ ummm, because we are using the mediawiki software in multiple places.

The software used by wikipedia and a number of wikimedia sites is open source software, called "mediawiki" - we use for three different wiki's for eXtension - and I'm using it to host a site for ncsu. ( http://techies.ncsu.edu )
