ah - sorry i wasn't clear enough on this.

a faculty member was wondering about this purchase for individual professors to backup/store their data.

in this case, a tape-backup system (or otherwise) that requires additional hardware isn't an option.

I personally don't trust CD/DVD media when it comes to backups.

Does the university you are at not offer a network backup service at a nominal cost per year?
