no, not the Panthers' wide receiver...

the b-ball coach at Oak Hill Academy

he practically runs a college program there anyways, he loves develpoing players, he can obviously recruit, he's a proven winner against some of the stiffest competition in America, he schedules very difficult opponents....shit, he has his own series of basketball fundamentals DVDs

Rod Strickland, DeSagana Diop, Carmelo Anthony, Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Smith, Keith Bogans, Ron Mercer, Jeff McInnis, Rajon Rondo (UK), Devendorf (SU), Tywon Lawson (UNC), Marcus Williams (UConn), and tons more

they went 41-1 in the '05-06 season

And I'm pretty sure john kruk is kidding.

i'm not kidding at all

in addition to the things I already listed, he has strong ties in the NC-MD-VA region, but he has also brought in a lot of recruits from the West COast and from the NYC area

dude, Oak Hill's b-ball program is hardly on the high school level

I bet'cha that if the '05 team were to play Fordham ten times, they'd split it 5-5

this is an academy in the middle of nowhere that is able to get Marcus Williams from L.A., Rod Strickland from Brooklyn and DeSagana Diop from Senegal. They got that way because he is a proven winner.

he is one of the only men that I would wholeheartedly support in this coaching search

with the talent he has at Oak Hill, I could coach them to a national championship.

^^^^Ohmm....you've lost it.

He recruits sophmores and juniors....IN HIGH SCHOOL. He has to recruit against maybe 5 other high schools in the whole nation. He runs a basketball factory. And he really doesn't have to do a lot of coaching because he has such great basketball players compared to the teams he plays.

This is ridiculous.

are you so naive to think that 16-17 year old boys could go 41-1 without a very talented coach?

Fowler doesn't have too many friends out there as it is. this could be a smart hire and it would certainly be newsworthy

I wouldn't mind at least talking to him...

Heck, our schools good relationship with Wootten led to a bunch of star players comming to State.

You don't have to be naive to think that.

For instance...usually when one high school team has one or two Division 1 players on their team, they do really well, win the conference, play for a state championship, maybe even win it.

But when your whole starting 5 is compromised of players who have signed Division 1 scholarships, with several of them being top-50 or top-100 players...then you would be dumb to think that they need more than "decent" coaching at a high school level.

Please just go back to being sarcastic.

It's Wooten. And we already had a good relationship with him before we offered him a head coaching job here (which he accepted and then turned down).

If our school doesn't look ridiculous already...then we sure as fuck would be the laughinstock of the entire sports world if we hired a high school basketball coach.

This is what you do to become a college basketball coach:

- You play college basketball or you somehow get a job in the basketball department of a university's athletice deparment.

- You get a job as an unpaid assistant, sometimes grad assistant while you're going to grad school.

- You slowly work your way up the assistant ranks. You work your way up at a small school and go be an assistant at a bigger school (either by getting hired, or following your head coach if he gets hired by a big school).

- Once you've established yourself as a good assistant, you get a job at a low-to-mid-major school whose coach left them for a bigger job.

- If you do well at the low-to-mid-major school, then hopefully you get hired to a bigger and better school.

Sometimes coaches coach high school teams before they become an assistant coach at a college. NO RESPECTABLE, MAJOR UNIVERSITY WOULD HIRE A HIGH SCHOOL COACH AS THEIR HEAD COACH. This is dumb. And I know kruk liked the "other" qualities Herb brought to NC State. Well Smith runs a high school basketball factory...which most people consider pretty damn bad becaus the kids go there to play basketball...not learn anything. At least DeMatha is a respectable high school.

no, it's wootten, not wooten... you're wrong. You are right about that we had a good relationship with him before we offered... I never said we didn't. Offering a head coaching job certainly didn't hurt our chances with Whitt and Lowe.

I might disagree with a "Haith for Head Coach" or a "Whittenburg for Head Coach" thread...but this is just dumb and doesn't warrant serious discussion.

sure is.

so that comparison I made should be stricken from the record.

the names are of no relation. I don't remember exactly the significance of who our high school was named after, and I frankly don't care to look it up.

http://www.hoophall.com/halloffamers/Wooten.htm
check out the linky... they got the name right in the bio at least.

I wouldn't mind having a high school coach if he was super qualified(look at what Wootten did at Dematha). I would definitely like more info on Steve Smith.

You shouldn't be dreaming about Steve Smith....unless you're a Panther's fan.

And I will bring negativity to whoever I damn well please.

Especially when you're talking about recruiting high school players to other high schools, and using that as a factor in saying he could be a good recruiter in college.
