smoke screen...
i very strongly doubt that Mario goes #1...
some "draft expert" or "draftologist" or whatever they're called probably told the Texans that they need to make it look like they want Williams for one reason or another...

Has this ever happened before I can't remember the first round pick being signed before draft day?

I thought they had just reached an agreement just in case they happened to sign him. I didn't know you could actually sign a player before he was drafted.. I may be wrong but I think they can still take Bush even though they reached an agreement with Mario.

Hell Yeah Mario. Play well for the first couple years and maybe you'll get to play for a contending team in the future!

^^ This is the same thing they did with David Carr. I believe the Bengals signed Carson Palmer prior to the draft as well. You're allowed to sign the 1st overall pick in advance.

^^Ok thanks.. I think I'd rather have in him Texas than N.O. I dont think Houston is that far away. Need a few more parts on defense and with the O-line but Williams will be a stud for the D-line.

you gotta believe that the bush saga had a huge part to play in this. All day, most of sports radio still predicted Bush of being a lock for #1

Alex Smith:
Contract Info: Signed a six-year, $49.5 million contract, including $24 million in bonus money on 7/26/2005.

according to
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=NFL&id=3119

Mario is getting $26.5 million guaranteed, which isn't THAT big a difference when you factor in inflation (salary cap went up 17.5 mil this year)

well they said on the espn update that it was because negotiations broke down with bush. everybody seems to think it was just an A or B thing and they chose B even though A was the second coming. it seems to be more like they didnt think they could sign A and they could sign B, so they went with B.

That was mark claytons opinion, the texan GM said they wanted to build defense because they play in the same division as peyton manning and even if they got bush and he was great they still were not going to outscore the colts.

that is increased Cap for the whole team, not just draft picks, that will be spread out to sign vets....etc.

i would say 2.5 million increase in guaranteed money is great for Mario, especially when compared to a QB contract!

bush did have his head up his ass, though - in the midst of this whole mess involving his family, he's all like "i just wanna get this out of the way and be the first pick in the draft"

USC must train their football players to be assholes - I remember when some of my cousins wanted to take a picture with Chad Morton, he was all like "nah ladies, I don't do the whole picture thing." then we know about matt leinart's inability to say that his team lost the game.

fuckin idiots

[Edited on April 28, 2006 at 9:16 PM. Reason : ^ doesn't the cap usually go up like 11 million or so though? or is this the new CBA taking effect]

My prediction for Mario's rookie year - 94 sacks... except for his attempt on Philip, who shrugs it off and then throws a 99 yard pass, to himself.

It's a huge day for NC State football.

Had a #4 pick traded for a #1.

Then have a legitimate #1.

Recruits better start-a-flockin'
