irvin was bashing the concept of defense in general, not nc state

he kept talking about being tired of hearing that defense wins championships, so when we had 3 d-linemen taken in the first round, he was using it to try to have some evidence that offense is more beneficial to winning than defense is

He should have said....they had a great defense(which is not a stretch...its the truth), but their offense was terrible so how important is defense really?

Once again they fail to recognize the amount of time our D is on the field, turnovers leading to points...in all 4 of those games....and one or two big plays leading to points by our D.


You cant just look at the record, these announcers dont know shit. Our D was nasty, and everyone I know who has watched us play (even the biggest NC State haters) will admit that we had one sick defense.

Once again...two games in Clemson and UNC, when we turned the ball over more than we scored.


And we totally shut down wake forest on D. I dont know what fucking game you were watching, but we held the number one rushing offense at the time to under 100 yards and only gave up a few big plays to their offense. You obviously were not at the game like the rest of us.


We threw two picks that got returned for touchdowns. Thats 14 points in case you cant add, and we lost by 8. You're a fucking idiot, stop posting your horse shit in sports talk.

hmm...well the ones i can recall off the top of my head include 2 important ints (one for a TD) vs. Maryland in the final quarter to seal the game, a couple of big ints versus FSU, there was one amazing int versus GT. a lot of cupcake schools there, and those are just a few of the ones i remembered. i don't even know how many more we had on the season.

hey it's an interception either way. sometimes interceptions are just about being in the right place at the right time.

look at that VT int against WVU where VT was punting the ball to WVU and the guy lost it in the sun and it hit him in the chest and bounced straight back into a VT players hands. still an interception.

i wasn't trying to account for all of the ints that we had just mentioning the ones that i remembered the most to show that your statement about not getting ints against non-cupcake teams was a false statement.

ok i just now looked up the statistics from the past season.

we had a total of 13 interceptions on the season. our opponents had 14 against us.

3 came against cupcake teams. 2 vs. EKU and 1 vs. MTSU

1 against NC
2 against GT
1 against CU
3 against FSU
2 against UMD

now while those aren't outstanding numbers they are respectable. i remember a number of times when we had players that should have caught the damn ball, but didn't.


the defense was very good, but can't be expected to do everything.

WTF guys.

The defensive line for this past year will probably be the best NC State will ever have talent-wise.

The only questionable thing about our D was the secondary.

Part of the reason why our team gave up as many points as they did were for two reasons:

1.) the secondary
2.) our team was on defense for a lot of the game because our offensive game plan was three and out
