My office computer is on cable modem behind a Vonage router. So is my house computer. What is the best way to set this up so I can acess it remotely? 5/2/2006 2:16:07 AM |

get a dynamic ip service. I use no-ip.com. Then just open up port 3389 in your router pointing to the machine you want remote access to. 5/2/2006 2:28:31 AM |

easy and free (though, more features are there if you opt for the pay-for service) I have it setup so that I can help my mom with her computer 5/2/2006 11:34:17 AM |

in hamachi, as long as you have a green dot by the names of the computer you want to connect to, it will work 5/2/2006 12:17:11 PM |

^ call a friend, have them install the software and test. should only take a couple minutes. saved me some time when implementing a similar setup. 5/2/2006 12:17:19 PM |

I have installed the ultravnc server app and himachi. I am gonna go home tonight and try to install the veiwer on the other computer and hopefully everything was done right here and it will open right up. (i have never gotten anything like this to work right on my first try.
I have driven back up here at 10pm before to fill out a contract and send it off. If this actually works and I can get to the files from home I can do everything remotely and send it off via e-fax. 5/2/2006 12:37:13 PM |

Assuming you box is XP...
Why use VNC? Remote Desktop is more secure by default (no extra encryption plug-in), has better compression and is part of the OS, with nothing else to install. And if there is an exploit you'll get the update without having to check a web page or sign up on a list. 5/2/2006 10:32:46 PM |
