just got an email saying one of my classes was cancelled, so that puts me down to 9 hours (i am on waitlist for a 3 hour class, but i still want another class so i can get up to 15 overall)

i'm a csc major and right now every class i'm taking in the fall is csc-related, so i'd prefer something in chass. i'm looking for something that is easy and/or fun and interesting.

if there are any interesting classes with good/funny instructors that shouldn't be hard to get a good grade in, please suggest them here.

i still need to meet the following humanities requirements:

literature
history or vis performing arts
science tech and society (or history, philosophy, religion. i already took a class that fills either of these requirements)
other humanities/social sciences
non-english culture

i'd appreciate any course/instructor suggestions you guys have

thanks

ENG 282 - Intro to Film with Wallis. You watch great movies and write a couple of papers. Highly recommended.

I'm pretty sure that ENG 282 doesn't meet the HSS requirements to graduate. But if you don't need it to fit that, go for it.

it definitely fits one of my requirements

i had actually already registered for it, and then changed my mind at dropped it.

i don't remember if it met one of the requirements i listed or if it met an additional elective requirement i have for CSC, but it definitely fills a need in some area for me.

i went ahead and waitlisted wallis' 282 class for the fall. there was only 1 spot left so i figured i'd get on the list just in case. still looking for other options as well.

I'm in CSC also, it's not an option for HSS under Literature, Adv Literarute or Additional HSS.

hi 321 - ancient & medieval science. its an interesting class & can fulfill the sci, tech, & soc req.

eng 221 & 220 - are interesting courses. both cover ancient literature. some mythology, epics, the inferno & other interesting stuff... those might cover a lit req since they are both types of great western lit classes

hi 207 - if you need a history class, ancient history with egyptions, greeks, & romans is a nice intro class. There’s some more exciting element to studying roman legions doing battle than there is with more modern war with guns, trenches, & bombs imo. when i took it the class was only 3 tests, so it wasn't alot of effort.

---

its too bad phi 300 (ancient philosophy w/ dr jesseph) is only offered in the spring b/c hes one of the funniest professors i've had, & grk 310 (ancient mythology w/ dr packman) is also offered only in the spring, but shes a really sweet professor & that class can fulfill an arts & letters religion requirement i believe.

^thanks

can you list what instructors you had for those?

also, i want to take 207 w/parker, but i cant register for those classes b/c they are restricted to freshmen and sophomores only. i heard he was the best history professor at the school though.

for visual and performing arts i took com 203, theory and practice of acting. Easy A. memorize two dialogues, one monologue, no tests, your final exam is to put together an "evening of scenes" for the public in which you perform one or two of your scenes. the only writing you do is a character analysis for each of your 3 scenes (basically an outline of how your character acts) and you have to go see two plays throughout the semester and write a 2 page paper on what you thought of it. Dr. Caple tries to come off as a hard ass in the beginning of the semester but she will let you slide w/ a lot. Class is a joke, you don't really learn anything, just memorize your lines and you're good.

i had kellner for eng 221. we had 1 paper a week through the whole course, no quizes, other homework, tests, or final exam. and we got the option for skipping like 3 of the papers, whichever we choose to skip incase we weren't interested in the topic or were really busy that week. it was the least stressful class i've ever had. i don't think he teaches it that way often, but i would think hes still an enjoyable professor even when he does the normal grade set up. i also heard that Hairston was good for those english courses.

hi 321 - i had riddle for that. he might be retired by now, or he might have another year or two in him. i've heard hes better than Sylla - i've heard mixed opinions on sylla, but its still an interesting class regardless of who teaches it.

hi 207 - I've had parker & sack for this class. I had it for parker, 3 tests were the only grades, & it was a really great test & he is probably the most well known historian we have at ncsu. I had Sack for an history 403 i think - focused on ancient greek stuff, and since i was stuck on campus anyways i set in on the class right before that which was his version of 207. both professors make it a good experiene. detreville or something like that also teaches some ancient history courses, i don't know if she does that course specifically but i've heard really good things about her too. although i'd most highly reccomend parker.

I've taken courses restricted to freshmen & sophomores when I was a junior & senior. sometimes you can just sign up for it on tracs & its not a problem, sometimes you just need to talk to the professor in advance. but I wouldn't give up hope... maybe shoot parker an e-mail if hes the one teaching it for the fall.
