Inter-Collegiate colors The colors allocated to the various degrees have been largely standardized in the United States by the American Council on Education in their Academic Costume Code [1], so that a Bachelor of Arts wears white velvet (Arts, Letters and Humanities) and a Ph.D. medium blue, while an M.D. wears green velvet. Other degrees are as shown below:
