yeah i was surprised when i learned laurence fishburne was gonna be in it
the first MI was a more of a thinking man's movie, and the second was more of your typical star-powered summer blockbuster once they realized what they had on their hands, especially with cruise at the helm
i think this one will probably be more in the vein of the second 5/4/2006 7:33:12 PM |

Mission Impossible 1 was so much better than 2. I'd rather see a thinking man's movie than a movie that uses car chases and explosions to make up for a lack up plot and creativity. 5/4/2006 7:48:06 PM |

i just skimmed imdb.com for like 30 seconds and that's what it said
i probably shoulda said i wasn't trying specifically find any particular type of review
what i was actually looking for was something like "M:I3 strays away from its predecessor, goes back to it's roots and mimics the mood of M:I1"
that's about the only thing that could make it good in my opinion...everyother review is bad 5/4/2006 9:11:50 PM |

"Injecting fresh blood and energy into the franchise via stronger plot, more suitable villain (terrifically played by Philip Seymour Hoffman), and larger ensemble, TV's Abrams makes a splashy debut proving he's just as gifted big-screen director."

yeah, I've got 3 reasons not to see this
1) The little stunt Cruise pulled with Comedy Central to get the scientology South Park episode off the air
2) Kanye West doing the theme song
3) Mission Impossible 2 5/4/2006 11:02:02 PM |

Mission Impossible 3 was awesome. Everyone agreed afterwards. Not saying everyone will agree, but the 15 people I watched it with enjoyed it.
Easily beats MI:2...but that's not that hard.
I think I still like the first one more though.
There were a couple of lines that were spoken that were a bit cliche and cheesy, and some of the action/special effects were a bit too over the top. The story line itself was also a bit unoriginal. Not giving away too much, but if you think I might stop reading now..... It's basically the story lines from both the first and second put together.
Def. worth the price to a matinee showing! just my opinion
anyone else see it yet? 5/5/2006 3:34:25 AM |

John Woo needs an ass kicking for killing what could have been a cool franchise
... in super slow motion for like 2 minutes
... while using wires
... because apparently doing those things make any action scene better 5/5/2006 11:36:34 AM |
CharlieEFH All American 21806 Posts user info edit post |
75% of this movie is awesome
25% of this movie is an episode of alias
most of that 25% of the movie occurs in the first 30 minutes
so if you watch alias you'll feel a bit ripped off. it works for alias b/c it's a tv show and you become attached to the characters. it doesn't work as well for a movie with a bunch of new characters filling in the exact roles of alias characters
the spying was fun, the action was fun (some cheesy moments but overall better than M:I 2).
the climax of the story was presented too fast (though that's usually the nature of spy movies)
i didn't predict the big twist, but it answered some questions about things i noticed that just didn't seem right
the shoe thing was hilarious
tom cruise + religion was a bit much
the ending was just ridiculous... 5/6/2006 10:33:28 PM |

To me the ending is like 50% of a movie.
It's like sex with a lot of wild foreplay. If you don't bust a good nut at the end, it's just shitty.

there was a shitload of action
they went on like 3 missions
and then there were like a bunch of physical confrontations and chases in between
my only complaint was that on the last mission they only showed him going into the building and then coming out of the building with the package. it kind of bothered me that they didn't show how he got the package. then after the movie i realized that that would have made the movie 15 minutes longer and they'd be forcing too much action on the audience.5/7/2006 11:17:53 AM |
Thorsten All American 1809 Posts user info edit post |
The reason why they didn't show exactly what took place inside the building is probably because we already saw it twice. in the first one and especially the second one when he had to break in to get that chamaira virus or whatever 5/7/2006 12:26:44 PM |

on the other hand, the missions they pull off in this movie make their breaking into langley look like a cakewalk.
i definitely want to see phillip seymour hoffman in more bad guy roles now. it's weird how his acting ability, compared to the artificiality of the other actors, made him (at least for me) one of the most sympathetic characters.5/8/2006 10:12:17 AM |

I'm not refusing to see this movie because of Scientology, I'm boycotting this movie because Tom Cruise is a Scientology whore. And also what StingrayRush said.
I think Scientologists are a bunch of fucking wackos, but I'm prepared to leave them alone and let 'em believe whatever they want. But then you get douchebags like Cruise who try to force their beliefs and agenda onto other people by silencing critics of said beliefs. Cruise could've just let the South Park episode go and let by-gones be by-gones, but instead he had to go and demonstrate what a tool he is.
I'm not refusing to see this movie because of a religion, I'm not even refusing to see this movie because the leading actor is a member of said religion. I'm refusing to see this movie because he actively (and maliciously) tries to shut anyone up who disagrees with the religion. I have lost all respect for Tom Cruise (what little respect I did have, at any rate), and there's no way my $6 to go see this movie will ever contribute to his probably-inflated salary and his already-inflated ego.
