Quote :
""Guys have been worrying about who was going to be the coach. When it was (West Virginia coach John) Beilein, it was like 'Oh no, it's Herb all over again'," Grant said. "I am a New York City kid, I need the up-tempo ... getting to the basket and taking shots we weren't able to take last year.""

Quote :
"
RALEIGH — From the moment new N.C. State basketball coach Sidney Lowe stepped on the stage at Saturday's news conference, the differences were obvious.

Lowe, a veteran of the 1983 championship team, made jokes. He smiled, laughed and talked of family and glory days.

In short, he was everything that former coach Herb Sendek was not.

"Do I really need to answer that?" Gavin Grant said when asked the difference between Sendek and Lowe. "Coach Lowe is like a complete transformation, nothing like Herb Sendek ... Coach Lowe gives it to you real but he's cool and down to earth. He played, so most of the guys can relate to him.""

He needs to chill out with the public airing of dirty laundry. Show some loyalty and class. If he wants to talk about that stuff, wait until he is long gone.

Ced gets in a coupleshots

Quote :
"“Me getting a lot of shots?” Simmons quipped Saturday. "But me getting a lot of shots would be a step up from last year and nine shots a game."

“It could be kind of like a head start,” Simmons said. “He knows what it takes to get to the league. He can look at my game and tell me what I need to work on to make myself better, to put myself in a better situation.”"

^^ time does mitigate how much of a blow it is to sendek. he still shouldnt say anything about it at all, though.

It's pretty clear that everything we sensed about the team not believing in what sendek was doing was true. We need to forget sendek now, though.

agreed. This coaching change is clearly going to be a great thing for the program, but nothing's gained by publicly denigrating Herb at this point.

at the level he was at, its not like he had his choice of ACC school to go to, though it may no longer be the most elite basketball conference, its still one of the best, its hard to turn down an opportunity to play at NC State and the ACC, it was probably the best offer he had

Grant will NEVER play after college. Europe won't even want his sorry ass

he needs to worry less about his old coach and worry more about learning how to dribble without carrying the ball, how to pass without it winding up in the stands and how to shoot a fucking jumper

Gavin is the man.

I simply can't believe there was so much discontent with Herb from inside the lockerroom.

All the players LOVED Herb Sendek when he was here...

Remember all those articles where the players were quoted saying supportive things??????????????

Stupid Herb lovers.

Gavin was actually really mad when herb left, the maddest out of all the guys because of what Herb did by not telling them till after the deal was sealed and not even telling them until THEY had to call a tea meeting after finding out on the internet. Gavin was really mad and still is mad with Herb so im sure he was just getting back while he could.

Ever think that maybe his subpar performance to date may be due to the type of coaching and gameplay he's been forced into?

nah, i don't have a huge problem with that, the guy was the only reason we didn't lose to wake by 30 both times down the stretch

a lot of those 'drive into the lane and run somebody over for a charge' moves are turning into actual scores - it looks like his feel is improving - at least he's proven he'll take charge if need be

i agree with half of that

its not like he was forced into it, he came to state by his own free will

if he hated herb's style so much what was he doing here

You'd think that, but it wasn't coaching that was causing all his unforced turnovers and stupid plays.

Not to mention the fact that he magically got better after getting his beak turned round, which I don't think is actually "coach related". If he can keep playing like he did towards the end of last year though, things might not be so bad.

Gav was making progress throughout the season. It wasn't just the broken nose that turned him around, although he definitely had some more fire from that game on.

This kind of deal happens all the time.

Guys like a coach, then when the things he's doing stop working, the stuff that didn't bother them before starts working into their heads.

Ken Hitchcock is a great hockey coach. He believes in discipline and everyone buying into a system. Players like him well enough, but when his methods stop working, they turn on him, usually citing that he hasn't played the game at the highest level. He was fired by the Dallas Stars for that very reason, and he'll soon be fired by the Flyers for it, too.

of course the two guys that sendek utilized least are gonna criticize him. everybody wants to play and wants the ball and there isnt a single offense that lets everybody take as many shots and play as much as they want, somebody is usually gonna be mad.

and i agree that gavin will be the man next year, but i also agree that he isnt nba material unless he can develop a jumper. he is in the same boat Juice is and Juice was wayyy overdrafted. He is not as good a rebounder and floor leader as juice and a slightly better shooter and slasher, slightlly.

Well i dont think its a coincidence that our two best scorers are the ones complaining about how they were utilized on offense.

well they did each have knocks on them almost all year

gavin: he couldnt touch the ball w/out turning it over and couldnt guard a sharpied dot on the floor

ced: he couldnt establish solid position on the post, didnt know how to catch/dunk/rebound with two hands and couldnt handle the double team.

actually, ced still had those problems at the end of the year.

now those problems are all prob related to coaching but they were reasons to keep the ball out of their hands.

Ced got knocked out of the post a few times, but there were also a few times that he had position and our players just didnt know how to throw a fucking entry pass. I think Lowe will help them with that, and Ced will be a little bigger next year hopefully.
