Any suggestions? I tried a registry fix I found in a problem help site but it didn't fix it. The person who had it said it had only fixed some of the cases... but I figured it was a shot regardless.

interestingly, my comp sometimes crashes with drag and drop

ex:
drag media file(s) into media player window
drag misc file(s) from one folder to another

but i've never looked into resolving it

drag and drop to move files b/w folders, move media in Window Media player, etc.

im assuming this also includes between say My Documents and My Pictures, etc etc in Explorer...

does your system crash, throw an error dialog, or just simply not do anything?

happened to me once after i got drunk and decided to fuck around with MS Office macros
i have no idea what i did
had to do a repair install

^^ it just simply is not effective. I have to right click, cut, paste instead of just drag and drop.

No error messages or anything. I left it alone for a few days when I went out of town and it works fine now.
