ALL this year
because that would give Sidney Lowe an NBA Championship ring, something that K and Roy do not have
and if you want to recruit NBA-level talent, the ring will help a lot

^^Sidney Lowe is finishing out the NBA season as an assistant coach for the Pistons before he takes the State job...so if the Pistons win, Lowe will have an NBA Championship ring he can wear with his ACC and NCAA championship rings...it can't hurt recruiting...brings me back to my optimal Charlie Weis scenario...Weis didn't use college head coaching experience to recruit at Notre Dame because he had zero college head coaching experience, a la Sidney Lowe...but don't you think kids wanted to play for Weis partially due to his success and titles in the NFL with the Patriots? I see a possible similarity in recruiting tools with Lowe if the Pistons win the title 5/9/2006 12:12:51 PM |

I was trying to tell my roommate this, but he didn't think it would matter....but he also didn't think it mattered for football recruiting that we had 3 dline go in the 1st round
he apparently doesn't understand recruiting....

you could argue that putting the 3 DL in the 1st round of the NFL draft would have a bigger/better impact on recruiting than if the Pistons won...but I know those big big diamonds couldnt possibly HURT bball recruiting
and seriously, if we want to compete with Duke and UNC, we are gonna need NBA caliber players, and the ring has gotta help with that 5/9/2006 12:25:31 PM |

oh, I definetly think it will help, my roommate tried to act like i didn't know what i was talking about on two separate occasions when i talked about these issues, but they obviously will both be effective. 5/9/2006 12:28:06 PM |

I could care less about the NBA so I don't have a team to follow. But it sho would be nice to see our new Head Coach with 3 rings to show off!

this would suggest to me that he's the top assistant coach...which makes sense since he has a couple hundred games worth of NBA head coaching experience

thats why I said "in bball". Football it does matter, its MUCH more scheme orientated, Weis could carry over his system or at least parts of it to ND. Its not like that in bball

Who gives a shit if you have a ring as an assistant in the NBA, K or Roy could easily go join the staff of the Spurs, Mavs, or Pistons. I dare say Lowe is about a 100 rungs lower on the coaching ladder than either of those two, but I'm glad you are trying to spin it in a positive light. 5/9/2006 1:18:55 PM |

it's kinda bittersweet though ... it'd be nice to have him already on the recruiting trail ... but hell, an NBA ring will do all kinda wonders for us in the future

i think the only real problem with this is that in football, the coordinators and assistant coachs are actually talked about during games and during pregame shows...
i don't think i've ever heard the name of an NBA assistant mentioned on tv until he signs to coach somewhere... 5/9/2006 1:52:59 PM |

well my point is that Lowe is in pretty good position to get his ring this season, then take the head coaching job at State next season

NBA assistants do a TON of work with player development.
So while it's not like football coordinators, it's still a relevant issue. 5/9/2006 5:18:50 PM |

regarless of whether you think it proves he's a good coach or not, having sid be on a championship team will definetly make a difference
"i have been on a championship team, in college and the nba; i know what it takes to win; i know what it takes to get to that level; i know what it takes to get drafted" etc.... i mean come on guys, i know you are probably still bitter about the herb thing, but get over, this thread is correct 5/9/2006 5:55:38 PM |

Sid has a lot to take care of before he comes here, regardless.

He should call Chris Wright from the locker room at halftime during the championship game and be like:

i dont know if thats entirely true...i believe he has to get his degree before he can officially take the position and legally contact players, recruits, etc...and if thats the case, he wasnt gonna get his degree until after the Finals ended, regardless of who is in it or wins it5/9/2006 6:03:08 PM |
