I saw some at best buy. What's the deal with these? Do you need a special player or will the computer play it in HD if you use DVI on an LCD?

Excuse me if I am lacking the knowledge of some of this new stuff.

The demo had "simulated" SD DVD playback...and it sucked...I have never seen DVDs look so bad even in SD TVs.

HD DVD seems like a short-sighted solution. Yeah, 30GB seems like all we'd need for now... but this shit blows up faster than we can keep up with most of the time.

I think its probably comprable to a high end scaleup dvd player, or a PC until you get to screens upwards of 50"

HD-DVD (and BluRay) will need to be hooked up to an HDCP compliant device through either DVI or HDMI. If you connect it through any other means (component) then you will likely get a downconverted image.

Yeah, they're simulated SD playback sucked. But honestly, most DVD playback on an HDTV looks like shit unless your HDTV has a good scaler. The simulated SD playback should be granier.

I'd wait till the standards finish fighting it out or dual format players start appearing. If you have a good upconverting dvd player, there's no point buy hddvd right now.

I gave you the only solution i knew 100% would work.

90% of tww doesnt have an HDTV with dvi/hdmi in

out of the 10% that does, 90% dont know what HDCP is

Good luck finding a card that actually supports HDCP. The ATI and nVidia sites claim the series they have now are capable of supporting HDCP, but I have yet to see a production card that actually does. Of course, it's been about 3 months since I looked.

A full DVD image isn't going to be any less quality than the actual DVD.
