I had Hi 207 over the summer with Parker. Its an intro class. Intro to ancient history to be exact. I found it fun with all the ancient, Egyptian, Greek, & Roman stuff... battles, wars, history, a touch of mythology too. When I had it over the summer it was 3 tests I believe. It did require some studying, but since there were no other assignments to turn in & no quizzes to worry about, there was time to study. Detreville & Sack are the ones teaching it this summer I think though. They are both good professors, but Sack has a personality that some find off putting, so I'd recommend Detreville if you're looking for a soft intro class.
Eng 221 is a good class too. "Readings from English translations of Biblical, Classical, Medieval, and Early Renaissance literature, including works by such authors as Homer, Plato, Virgil, Ovid, St. Paul, St. Augustine, Marie de France, and Dante." Ancient, medieval& Renaissance stuff... homer with the Trojan War stuff, Dante’s inferno, its a fun class and was an easy A when I had it. Even though I don't know the professor teaching it this time, I can still recommend it as class that I had alot of fun in and was easy.
Intro to philosophy (phi 205) has 2 sections being taught during the first summer session. The first by Auerbach & the other by Levenbook. For an intro phi class I'd recommend Auerbach. It required some readings & short writing assignments I seem to remember, but it was definitely a worthwhile class. It was 1 of 2 philosophy courses I had before I switched my major to philosophy. --------- As a disclaimer, I like ancient stuff, and I think interest adds to ease so I might be a little biased in stating how easy I found them... but still they are 200 level mostly intro classes so I think any of these 3 would do you well. I was tempted to post about some higher level classes that I enjoyed that are being offered over the summer, but I'll refrain from those. 5/10/2006 3:32:42 PM |
