anybody hear this? they played it from about 3:05 to 3:20...said he would play it again later in the day...fucking awesome interview...Lowe seems like a great guy who will bring very good things to the program and he also acknowledges his lack of college coaching experience...great interview, you must listen to it

They'll play it again at 6pm! I listen to them on the internet everyday here in Wilmington, and I love the show. I've emailed back and forth with Packer several times. Really nice guy!

^^^ more likely that will happen after 10 years with no banners, and when he becomes terrified of Duke/UNC/Roy/Coach k while running a boring offense and squandering recruits talents. IF ALL that happens then maybe

You guys are kidding yourself if you think that 3 years (or less) from now the Alums will already be saying "YOU WON A CHAMPIONSHIP HERE AS A PLAYER! BRING ONE HOME SOON OR ELSE!!!....."

The fact that the guy not only played here, but won a championship here, already puts him in a bad position.

^ and ^^^

Exactly.

NC State fans expectations really arent that unrealistic.

No one is saying we have to be on equal footing with UNC and Duke.

No one thinks we will outrecruit those guys.

But,

It is COMPLETELY reasonable to think we might occasionally outplay them.

It is COMPLETELY reasonable to think we should always give it our best shot.

It is COMPLETELY reasonable to want our coach to act like a fucking man instead of shirking responsibility time and time again.

It is COMPLETELY reasonable to demand that we are represented by someone who is passionate about NC State basketball.

If you check Herb's box score you'll see he just went 0/4 with 100,000 fans left stranded on base.

^yup, all herb supporters that think OH BUT HE GOT US TO 5 STRAIGHT NCAA tourneys should read that. that in itself is a string of consistency but when u make it to 5 and never past sweet sixteen, i think you have proven you cannot win a championship.
Maybe Lowe will be a complete flop, maybe we will lose every game, but Lowe gives NCSU basketball a chance, a breath of fresh air.

AND isnt a chance at winning a title or even beating UNC/Duke a whole lot better than no chance because herb proved he couldnt really do either.

I saw Mccants rockin a Spud Webb Hawks jersey at the Nike Allstar camp in Indy a few years back. I took a picture but it came out pretty blurry. If I can find it I'll post it.

...and you have proven that you don't know shit about college basketball. it took gary williams 8 trips in a row to the ncaas before he got past the sweet 16, and on his 9th, he won it all. im sure there are others out there in the same boat. if you dont know what you're talking about, just don't talk.

yeah, and gary williams let his boys (who were mighty talented) play.

Herbie's offensive scheme would have never won a national championship. I don't give a fuck if he made it to 25 str8 tourneys.

comparing those two are apples and oranges.... so maybe it's you that needs to leave sports talk.

^^listen, i never said a single thing about their coaching styles, and i never compared the two... i was responding directly to the comment "when u make it to 5 and never past sweet sixteen, i think you have proven you cannot win a championship."

i was pointing out that he was incorrect.

if you want to put words in my mouth that i never said, then you can go ahead and do that...but you're the one whos going to look stupid. not me.

you were making the point that Gary took that long to win a national title. And that Herb only had a chance at 5 trips... (you are in essence comparing their years in the NCAA tourney)

but yes I was being harsh (I figured you were saying you thought Herb had the same possibilities as Gary).... sorry

the point is, the terps averaged a bit more than 85 points per game in their 2001-2002 season. (although the final game was low scoring, they got there behind a great offense)

Our team averaged 74.5 this year (10 points less is a hell of a lot). You are only going to win a title if your team can score (strict half court offenses don't work well anymore). You may be able to hold a few teams down with good D, but that isn't gonna happen in 6 str8 games.

But whatever...

It doesn't really matter.

^^ If you define NC State fans' expectations by what he outlined, then he's right.

But I'd have to say that our fanbase's expectations are much loftier than that.

^^no, thats not my point at all. again, stop putting words in my mouth.

here, let me dumb it down for you:

someone said: if you can make it to the tournament 5 straight years, and not make it past the sweet 16, you cannot win a championship.

he never specifinally said herb, he was making a general statement about ALL coaches.

i merely pointed out that it took Gary 8 years before he got past the sweet 16, and he still won it all. therefore, disproving his statement that you cannot with a championship if you cant make it past the sweet 16 in your first 5 years.

i am not talking about herb AT ALL. i am refuting his incorrect statement.

I just want a team to run the damn floor.

I mean for fucks sake, if it weren't for the shot clock I'm willing to bet that Herb would still be running 4 corners.

This is the main expectation that rally left out. There are too many pack fans that want to see an NBA or (gasp) UNC style of play, and that's why they wanted Herb out. I hate to break it to you guys, but you can win a championship with almost any offense if you have the talent and drive. The expectations to play hard and man up are certainly reasonable, but if you don't think that a large portion of the fanbase has unrealistic expectations, you obviously have your head in some type of dark orifice.

^^thats true, but you cant get recruits if you're not playing that offense, so in turn you cant win championships. You might find a diamond in the rough every once in a while who can carry the team, but a coach like Herb would hold him back and not let his true colors show.

Actually he made it to the final four in his 8th season that he went to NCAAs, then won it in the 9th.

Umm how exactly did Florida win it all this year? Was it their offense or was it Joakim Noah blocking every fucking shot?

For the record Florida averaged 76 PPG this year and UCLA averaged 67.7 PPG. HOW FAR DID THEY GO?

They made it to the final game because of DEFENSE. They shut down Memphis, one of the highest scoring teams in the land, and beat them. UConn, Washington, Memphis, Duke, Gonzaga, all of those were the top scoring teams in the NCAA this year. Did they go far?

But I guess it is all about offense right? I mean fucking CAMPBELL finished 2nd in the country in offense. HIRE ROBBIE LAING!

fuck all this bullshit arguing. we were a 3 point shooting team. when we went cold, we had no backup plan, simple as that. shit duke is the same way except they have a better backup plan if they go cold, and they havent gotten past the sweet 16 in 4 years (the jj era). the teams that win it are very athletic and balanced.
