X3 might be stale.
Superman might be a flop.

I'm just going to see them both and decide afterwards.

X3

Superman has, is, and always really be, LAME. The most recent trailer looked SO freakin' corny.

It may, and probably will make more money, but only because the franchise is "new" in the eyes of this generation, the parents will take all their kids cuz stupid Supes is all wholesome...the damn movie will probably be rated PG. X-Men targets a more teen/adult audience, and they also didn't have as much marketing towards children for this one e.g. no action figures.

its been literally a generation since the last superman film

it is untested waters

it has been a couple years since the last x-men film (which did big box office, especially opening weekend)

the difference

SUPERMAN IS STILL ACTING LIKE A FUCKING SEQUEL
that shit is going to confuse the fuck out of little kids

kids (who are the bulk of repeat viewings) will go see x-3 since thats what they've grown up with
not some sequel to their grandfather's favorite movies

I have boners for both movies.

IT'S MOTHERFUCKING SUPERMAN, FOR CHRIST'S SAKES.

I reread the whole Death, Return of Supes arc a few months ago and it still gets me.

Don't forget that people bitched and moaned about Batman Begins up until 11:59 the night before it's release, and it has obviously come out a winner.

The ONLY WAY superman could have hoped to surpase X 3 was to start over and come swinging with all the badass ideas that have been thought of over the past 20 years, take the best ones and fucking blow people away.

but no....same costume....same series....same look....same villan....same fotress of solitude....same old same old

Shame that most people don't seem to understand the epic universal appeal behind Superman when compared to most Marvel comics (which tend to be isolated and campy), including X-Men and Spiderman.

Nonetheless, I still think X-Men 3 could (and will) be fun. Unfortunately, it simply doesn't stand a chance against the behemoth that is Superman.

once again

the kids who fuel summer movie repeat viewings (think Shrek 2) have no connection to Lex Luthor, its just a bald guy who thinks he is amazing, and they're really not going to have a clue whats going on with the FOS

it almost (from the trailers) seems like they're going for a really character driven story instead of just letting it be something super cool

once again x-men 3 wins uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I don't want this thread to turn into a Superman/Batman debate, but I will take it as GOLDEN opportunity to talk about the genius of Stan Lee.

Think about the context of Superman. It's the '30s. America is working its way out of the Great Depression, and there's these Nazi guys looming in Germany. The best possible superhero (in ACTION COMICS, no less) is a guy who is stronger than anyone, can fly, can see through shit, and always works for good.

That's a great fucking hero for slightly-downtrodden America.

When Frank Miller grabbed hold of Batman, he as much used the opportunity to show Superman's lack of relevance as he did make Batman an even more brilliant character. He did exactly what Stan Lee had done years earlier.

Stan Lee saw that in the '60s, Americans no longer related to an extraterrestrial with godlike powers. So, he created normal people, with flaws and problems, who had talents that were slightly more advantageous in crime- and evil-fighting than Joe Blow. Rogue can fly and pick up automobiles...BUT SHE CAN'T TOUCH ANYONE. I can't relate to that directly, but I know how she feels a lot better than I understand how Supes feels being stronger than everyone and seeing through chicks' clothes.

Stan Lee gets people.

In the end, I haven't said anything new or amazing. The fact remains, though: Superman sucks.

Why would you think this? Professor X's mental powers only work on humans and some mutants. Supes is neither. Plus, Xavier is depowered now in any event.

Don't make me get FroshKiller.

HAHAHAHAHA

You are, unintentionally or not, single-handedly, the stupidest user on TWW. Despite the fact that Superman is capable of extraterrestrial travel where it's much colder than what Storm could ever hope to conjure, he can survive a nuclear blast for Christ's sake. He's capable of FTL travel and is faster than the motherfucking FLASH.

Marvel pales in comparison to DC.

And this is why Superman is the stupidest superhero ever.

And those who say that X's powers only work on humans, I am pretty sure he used his powers on extraterrestrials also, like Elandra (sp?).

^^ I think you mean Lilandra? I'm not familiar if/when he used his powers on her as I had pretty much stopped reading the X-men by then.

Though I think that since Spiderman beat the crap out of the entire team by himself, Superman wouldn't have a problem at all. I guess it's rather pointless since they are from completely different universes, but it is fun to debate.

Meh, IMO, no one short of Thanos or someone of his ilk could remotely touch Superman. The Hulk would give him a run for his money provided he could actually hit him. I guess it depends on who is writing Superman as to which powers he has, heh.

^^ Yeah, no doubt, and as expected. In a toe-to-toe slugfest, I'm not sure Supes could ultimately withstand the Hulk (the green one, not the gray one).
