If we can't beat them at a sport, at least we can beat them at frisbee.

You can consider calling it a sport when they start to actually paint the field to show boundaries.

it's way more of a sport than NASCAR, and we occasionally have those threads.

listen ultimate frisbee isn't a damn sport. just because you and your buddies play it, that doesn't mean it's a sport. it's a game. would you consider disc golf a sport? what about bowling? how about shuffle board? millions of people participate in those activities, but i bet you no more than 10% of the population would consider any of them a sport.

Sweet. Start calling it a sport bitch. look at the video for proof of painted boundaries.

thats right, suck my motherfucking dick you cuntrag!

And superchevy, you show the intelligence level of a can of peas. What you described, and what I play, are not the same. College level play is far different from the pickup you see on campus and you described. That is a game, college play is absolutely a sport.

oh wow, "college level play" you say? hahahahahaha! that's a weak argument. there are professional disc golf leagues, tournaments, and governing bodies. there are professional bowlers. there are professional competitive eaters too. there are professional chess players. there are professional videogamers. there are professional all kinds of shit. you agree that "professional level play" is superior to "college level play", right? well, none of those other games and competitions are sports.

look, it's great that you take the game as seriously as y'all do. if it makes y'all feel better in someway, and validates your commitment, then call it a sport. and continue hazing your new members too. the rest of us will just laugh at y'all for thinking that way.

It's as much of a sport as soccer or football. Athletic ability, agility, endurance, strength, the ever-popular Sports Talk requirement of Defense, coordination. The only thing separating ultimate from soccer or football is TV contracts. (and large stadiums)

Disc golf, bowling, and shuffle board are as much of sports as regular golf or nascar, which is to say, not really sports at all.

i dont see what doesnt make it a sport. as tl mentioned, it even has one team playing defense, preventing the other team from scoring. thats pretty much the ultimate qualifier in my book.

I'm sorry

but if golf is a sport, then Ultimate is a sport 3x over.

btw, I played ultimate frisbee 3 summers ago, for the entire summer. It requires just as much athleticism, if not more, than America's beloved three.

The only sport that requires more endurance that I've played is soccer.

I never could figure out why they argue with people over their game/sport of choice. Nobodys view has convinced you to stop playing.

Youre just proving how desperate you are for some kind of athletic internet merit badge. Honestly:

A) grow the fuck up, and ignore people
or
B) get whats coming to you, because you are a fucking idiot

The play didn't look all that great, that's what happens when a defender swats at the disc instead of catching it or actually knocking it down. I've seen that same play happen many times and I've been on both ends of it myself.

If you actually watch college level teams play, then I don't see how anyone would be able to not call Ultimate a sport. Kids throwing a disc around on campus or playing random pickup with thirty people on the field is not Ultimate.

Ultimate has a governing body (the UPA), strategies for offense and defense, guidelines governing time and field dimensions, clear rules for play (on the 10th edition now), a national championship series and a regulation size for discs in play. What does Ultimate lack to make it a sport?

The dictionary says that a sport is a:
"Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively."

Ultimate players have to be dedicated athletes if they want to succeed. They have to be able to catch like a football player, sprint like a track runner, jump like a basketball player, have the endurance of a distance runner, the cutting ability of a soccer player and have strong throws so that they can control the flight of the disc even in strong wind. All of this for no money or fame outside the Ultimate world.

You can say that Ultimate isn't a sport, but it's not going to affect anything. We play because we love the sport and the unique challenges that come with it, not so that the cool kids on the internet will accept us.

Completely irrelevant. Plenty of people are dedicated to pursuits which net them no monetary gain.

w/e it doesn't matter

if you think it's a sport, cool

if you don't think it's a sport than that's fine too

people who play it/think it is a sport are obviously a little self-conscious (or aware that it is not a sport) becuase they let it bother them so much

Spend less time hoping around after a piece of plastic

And more time learning how to read, ace.

But really, non-straight boundaries with an endzone marked by mini-road cones at what appears to be at best an intermural field, complete with sweet chainlink fence in the background?

Ok.

i agree with sc, in beer pong there there are rules, definite offensive possesion, and if someone bounces it, then you play defense to sway it away....
lets be real here....
http://gopack.cstv.com/
go to GoPack... click on lists of sports.. hmmm, don't see ultimate as it turns out. but i do see rifle and cheerleading.
