For definition sakes: Series = At least 3 games.

Innovation wise: Prolly the Madden series, i mean alot of it is gimmicky, but some of it realy works
Story Line: Resident Evil
And Just because its so big of a classic: Mario

QB vision..the all star mode, and now the ability to play as any player, instead of just the ball carrier.

if you look at the original GTA (the british over the city one) and look at San Andreas

i doubt you're going to find a more evolved game

i could be wrong though

[Edited on May 14, 2006 at 5:53 PM. Reason : ^i guess zelda is a good competitor for that title]

I was thinking about the FF games, but they technically aren't a series. Each game is a game of it's own, independent of the others.

Granted there are only two official games, but Baldur's Gate is my absolute favorite PC RPG series. Hopefully a third will somehow get developed.

Madden doesn't even get close to the Mario Bros. series in terms of innovation. Super Mario Bros. and Mario 64 revolutionized the game industry to the point that virtually every single game that followed them were impacted somehow. This isn't rampant fanboyism, it's almost universally believed amongst every single journalist and developer in the game industry.

Indeed. First GTA was set in Liberty City, and then a London 1969 expansion pack was released later.

To be honest, running people over was more fun in GTA than GTA3...the squish and the blood spot was more satisfying than the full-motion body fling.

Resident Evil:
I had Codename Veronica. I had to put it down after I realized it had that terrible control scheme and you can find 30 bullets hidden here and there but it takes 24 to bring down one zombie.

Shenmue:
I got as far as the part where you get a job, then I realized that the whole reason I play games in the first place was to escape doing the very things that this game requires you to do.
