So, Something above the brake pedal has been hitting my foot. I finally decided I would go to zip-tie it out of the way when I found that my car has this security system thing installed above the pedal. (great place to install it retards). I don't know if it is hooked up, or anything and I kinda want it moved or taken out. So I snapped some pics to see what you guys think.

that looks like the override button for when you lose your fob or the battery dies. that's a common place to install an alarm since it is A) hidden and B) next to all the ignition wires, fuses, and door wires you would need on an alarm.
you could remove it, but you have to make sure that you hook up any wires that it is designed to break on alarm or your car won't start or open. you could try unplugging it and trying to open your car and start it and see what happens. if car still runs, just take it out. 5/15/2006 1:14:29 PM |

looks like a Pro-Lock aftermarket security system to me. the one i have in my car (installed by previous owner) will let you turn the ingiton into "on" position, but will not let you turn the car over if that electronic key on the picture is taken out. i never use it, dont really see the point of it. the button on top is for the built-in light. 5/15/2006 4:30:40 PM |

Yes prolock, that was also on my honda from the previous owner. It's only a starter kill. I pulled mine out, maybe I should try to sell it on ebay. 5/16/2006 12:33:07 PM |

They're right it's definitely ProLock. My Nissan came with one, installed by fucking Nissan, but mine was a alarm and starter killer combo and has been a bitch to remove. Damn thing caused the smart control unit for the doors to short out which made the alarm go off at random times. I had a mechanic remove the as much of it as possible but the smart control unit still needs to be replaced. So for now I just pulled the smart unit. It cost me power locks but at least I'm not awakened in the middle of the night by the damn alarm. 5/16/2006 12:47:57 PM |
