Today I realized that I might need to learn a new task. not to steal the cars, but help innocent women like my neighbor.

She was at home and unloading groceries, her young son and baby boy were with her. While she was inside her son closed the doors to the car, which were locked, and the baby was still inside. While 3 firemen tried for about 20 minutes to use a coat hanger to open the door, I realized that maybe it wasn't the same as it was with older cars. She has a newer model volvo station wagon (not sure exactly what kind). I learned how to pop the locks on older vehicles using a slim jim but that was on shop trucks in auto tech, all which had manual locking doors, and vertical oriented.

Are newer vehicles just as easy to break into? I honestly just don't know what the setup is inside the door anymore and before I was able to make a slim jim and get over next door to lend a hand, the fireman had busted in a window. Just kinda curious.

i locked my keys in my car (1999 jeep cherokee) and called the cops... they're not allowed to help anymore

i eventually popped it after 20 minutes with a garden flag
then the cop gave me the 3rd degree after he said i could do it
checked my license, registration etc.
i was pissed thinking " yeah thanks dumbass i'd really call the cops to help me steal a car "

sounds like they didn't have the proper equipment or training to perform the job, slim jim's do not work anymore for most cars, there are other entry kits available, but most are difficult to use and you have to reference a book for the specific vehicle type. We pretty much have a rule that once the temp reaches a certain degree outside if you can't get into the car in one minute then the window is coming out. We only assist with entry if there is a person (child) locked inside and the vehicle is not running or is running and the A/C isn't on (that we can visually tell). There is a kit on the market that makes gaining entry like child's play and involves a wedge, an inflatable bladder and a long rod that you use to activate the power door lock button inside the vehicle. Using this kit I can get into most vehicles within 20-30 seconds

The wedge and inflate-a-pouch really help tremendously on ANY vehicle entry issue.

You can buy the bladder/pouch thing for about 30 bucks. Snap-On sells 'em but I bet they cost more than that.

actually, just using a stiff wire between the door and body to pull the lock or hit the button on the inside is what i do on most cars even with a master lockout set, its just so damn easy

i think he meant that the son closed the door from the outside, thus locking the baby in. Doors locked, therefore NO one could get it open. Don't worry, i thought the same thing at first.

i made a long slim jim sort of tool after i used a professional one at work.

its basically a long ass rod with a kink in it with a handle and at the other end has a 90degree bend to hit the lock button. you are suppose to use it with a little inflatable bag looking thing.

shit works perfect

I locked my keys in my car once and used a super jimmy to get in. Only problem is now the lock and power window on the side are fucked up. Thats the problem with newer cars and using a jimmy.

Speaking of breaking in, the 2006 Corolla I was driving last weekend got its window busted by a thief and it just sat there.

What's that blinking light called "Security"? Isn't the car supposed to make a sound if someone breaks a window?

won't work on all cars. if the alarm is armed on mine that button does nothing.

we have one of those too in the master lockout kit, i use that most of the time, because it is a hell of a lot faster than using any of the specialized tools between the window and door on the outside

it will work on probably 85% of veiciles out there its basically a glorified coathanger
