I only got into this show halfway through this season, and in two weeks it overtook Seinfeld and West Wing as my favorite show. Are/were there any other shows like this? I hear the new Studio60 thing coming on NBC is supposed to be similar.

DENNY CRANE!
studio60 is going to be more like the west wing (since, well, its pretty obvious why)
if you want something more in the vein of BL, check out the later seasons of the practice (where we first met Alan Shore and had a guest appearance from Denny Crane) and Boston Public, which was david e. kelly's high school drama on fox, a much overlooked program... 5/16/2006 11:17:43 PM |

i'm sorry
how is sportsnight like boston legal?
i guess sportsnight is more like a comedy that spends a lot of time in the drama neighborhood
while boston legal is a drama that makes late night visits to the comedy hood 5/17/2006 1:59:56 AM |

Very few things toe the line like Boston Legal does, true, but I'd say that Sports Night spent enough time in dramaland to hang out in the same neighborhood.
I was a big fan of Boston Public at first, but the air went out of it in a hurry, somewhere around Chapter Thirty-Five I'd guess.
Who knows what should go here?
Northern Exposure, Picket Fences? I dunno.
I'm gonna throw this out there, though: Degrassi: The Next Generation 5/17/2006 2:15:30 AM |

What is it with Boston Legal and someone trying/succeeding in shooting someone else in all the commercials? So far I've seen:
1) Captain Kirk shooting at someone that is not remorseful for killing some kid. 2) A Captain Kirk showdown with Greedo to see who will shoot who first 3) Some chick that proclaims "I shot him" while standing over a body in the street
It makes me think that every week boils down to a which character shot who scenario. The commercials have totally put me off watching the show. Shooting JR doesn't boost the ratings if you do it every week. 5/17/2006 8:40:24 AM |

I just got done talking about Studio 60 in the Scrubs thread, but I think it's going to be similar to Boston Legal in that, as someone already pointed out, it will be a drama that has comedy-like elements(or whatever).
As far as Aaron Sorkin's past work, I expect it to fell more like Sports Night(greatest TV show ever) than the West Wing.
I'm two weeks behind on Boston Legal. Me and the DVR are going to spend some quality time together this weekend.
