I have a 1994 Mazda MX 6. About a month ago I pulled off onto Wade Avenue and it just stopped. Wouldn't reverse or go forward. I know a lil something about cars. And it is obviously a transmission problem. I've checked the fluid and it's pink/red like its supposed to be. It isn't sludgy or burnt and it appears to be at the appropriate level. As far as I can recall there were no warning symptoms. Someone told me that with that model sometimes if you flush the fluid and clean/replace the filter it might solve the problem. I don't know. But I'd like someone to look at it for me. If you can, please PM me or post here with any suggestions/quotes. Even if you don't have the means to repair it I'd like to know for sure whats going on with it. But if you can fix it too that's definitely a plus. I'd rather have a student fix it for some cash (I definitely know how expensive college can be). It'd save me the money from taking it to a shop too. Let me know! Thanks.

Ashley...I can look at it, but it's gonna be at least Monday before I can. I've been sick for the last couple of days and I have three cars that I haven't even started on. But I'll be glad to if somebody else here can't get to it quicker.

Question: I know someone with an MX6 engine from a 1988 model. Will it work in mine? Is it compatible? I'll call the Mazda dealership but I was wondering if anyone knew. . .

No. Different engine. The '88 models use a 2.2 engine. Yours is a 2.0. Totally different beast.

ok, another question... someone told me that i should try flushing the fluid and changing the filter before trying to replace the whole transmission. he said that since none of the gears work and the mount doesn't move at all when you change gears, it's probably not the transmission. anyone have any knowledge?

You need a new trans. New fluid isn't going to do anything for you at this point.

is it making any sounds at all? and did it coast to a stop when it crapped out or make any god awful sounds or what? does the shifter feel funny like it might have a broken linkage?

its the transmission. the engine in that car is solid but those transmissions are known to be the suck.

yeah i know it is the transmission... i'm just tryna weed out all of the minor things before i replace the whole thing. it didn't do anything funny beforehand. like i said, someone told me that the trans on this car has to be flushed and the filter replaced every year. i've had the car a little more than a year and havent done that and god only knows if the person before me had it done. i was told that if this isn't done it'll clog up. i was also told that usually when the trans is completely fucked one gear goes out... mine won't shift into any gear or move at all. the mount doesn't move either. i dunno. i got someone changing the gasket and filter tomorrow... hopefully that'll work... i'm trying to avoid replacing the whole transmission. but just in case i wind up having to, can anyone here do that kind of work and can beat the shop prices?
