I am doing a minor in Spanish, and at the end of SSII, I will have had FLS 201, 202, 208, and 310. My schedule works best with taking FLS 301 (Salstad) or 302 (A Wright) in the fall, but both classes say you need 6 hours of 300 level spanish classes. Is this prereq required by most professor? And how difficult will it be in the long run?
I am signed up, right now, to tak FLS 311 in the fall, but that's making me have to take ST 370 online instead of ST 361. I'm not an engineer nor do I expect to have a very good time with Statistics, but I have to have it this fall.
How much work is usually expected with 301 or 302, compared to 311? My main concern is that two of my TAM classes are very project-heavy, and I know I am going to be focused more on those than other classes. My schedule is only 15 hours, as a whole. ??? 5/19/2006 10:49:23 PM |

I took 311 and it's a lot of busy work, but you don't have to read novels and shit like you do in the lit classes. 5/19/2006 11:35:55 PM |

I took 301 with Amy Wright this Spring semester, and I was constantly working for that class. If you can take 300 first, I would recommend it, or likely you will be lost in the class. There is a lot of busy work, and every night we had several pages of lit to read, and then questions to answer about it. She's not a very helpful teacher, and she doesn't actually "teach" anything. Pretty much, if you disagree with her interpretation of the literature, you are wrong. I don't know if she'll be more lenient on the amount of work assigned because it's a summer session, but she gave an incredible amount during the spring semester.
I would advise you to take 308 or 311 or even 300 (intro to lit) before taking 301 or 302. Since you're a minor and not a major, it will save you the hassle of having to take 301 or 302. I would avoid those at all costs. 5/21/2006 10:27:24 AM |

I'm not taking the class over the summer. I'm taking 310 over the summer with Lioret (I had him for 208 this spring...sorta dreading having him again, but whatev).
I can't take 308 since I took 208, but I'm thinking about sucking it up for st 370 and take 311 in the fall, and then some other lit class that I may like better in the spring.
But with that advice, I think I will either do 302 or 311, b/c Wright sounds...well, not too fun. ??? 5/21/2006 5:37:43 PM |

depending on the professors for 311, as long as you don't have to take garrigan, avoid taking 301 or 302. if anything, take 309 with despain, its a great class and it will help your espaƱol incredibly 5/21/2006 11:36:09 PM |

OF COURSE, the 311 in the fall that can fit in my schedule is Garrigan. What's up with that professor (why should I avoid him/her?) and can anyone tell me anything about Salstad? 5/22/2006 12:15:06 AM |

Garrigan is a lot like Profa. Wright, they even share an office. I had them both in the same semester. I had Garrigan for 316, which is a culture and civilization class, so it's not going to be set up like 311. With Garrigan, she teaches it like a graduate level class (types of materials, expectations), but with rules like highschool. She's very meticulous about grading, and everything is counted down to the point. For instance, we got 8 participation points a day, 4 for asking a question, 4 for answering. This was 8 points everyday, out of our total 1000 points. Yes, she writes down everytime you talk in class. Unfortunately, I have to take her for 311 in the fall (I believe she is the only teacher). So I'll just have to put up with her again. She's not very hard to get along with, she just doesn't understand if you don't put her class as the center of your universe. 5/22/2006 12:28:37 AM |

that's one of my main concerns. if i take 311, i'm going to have 2 big TAM classes that are very project-driven, a really tough statistic, another english class possibly, along with a pe and ma 132 (i know ma 132's not supposed to be tough, but it's still work).
taking 301 will give me a slightly easier statistics class, along with everything else. 5/22/2006 1:28:44 AM |

this is tough, cause you definitely need more experience in 300 levels to avoid a struggle with 301... you could always take a random elective, like hispanic cinema or a civ class and take the lit in the spring, just another option. 5/22/2006 2:11:18 PM |

Well I took 311 with Jaimes, 309 with Despain, and 318 with Jaimes. 311 was work, 318 was cake, but Jaimes should be gone for a year (I think), but yeah 309 was cake too 5/22/2006 3:13:10 PM |

^^the only classes that can possibly fit the schedule are 301, 302, or 311.
