Hey, does anyone happen to know of a good and inexpensive place that does Airbrush tanning around NC State? I have to tan for Latin dance competitions, and if I could find an affordable place it sounds like a nice alternative to putting the time and effort into self-tanners.. 5/19/2006 11:11:31 PM |

I loved Mystic Tan. You just have to make sure to exfoliate before you go. Palm Beach Tan has the nicest machines. 5/20/2006 10:36:54 PM |

besides... some people might not have all day to sit outside and tan and may need it for one event 5/21/2006 12:32:21 AM |

And some people just don't tan. I can wear spf 50 and I still turn red then right back to white. I don't care for having skin cancer just for a potentially darker shade of pale. 5/21/2006 12:35:26 AM |

Is Mystic Tan what they offer at all of the salons? I'm not too concerned about price but I need a good alternative to being out in the sun all day for a wedding I'm in coming up first week of August since I'm going to be stuck in my office for the rest of the month 7/10/2006 11:00:57 AM |

I have had horrible Mystic Tan experiences, and have gone to various locations to get it done at, i's not like one salon is always screwing it up. And you smell funny for a few days afterward. What you might want to do is get one done as a preliminary, and see how you like it, since it takes about a week for it to fully fade away. Then, if you like it, get another. I have found that even the medium one is really dark and makes you a little on the orange side, and I have olive-toned skin already. 7/10/2006 11:34:45 AM |

What I'm wondering is - are there other airbrush varieties other than Mystic Tan which maybe don't suck? Or in general, does airbrush just suck. I can do the tanning bed routine since it's still a few weeks away but I was hoping that airbrush would be a quick alternative. 7/10/2006 12:23:40 PM |

You can attempt to do it yourself. There are several good products. L'Oreal bronzer and tanner in one is pretty darn good. (Only that one, though, make sure it's with the bronzer so you see where to apply.)
ALso, St. Tropez self tanner, it's tinted is good.
With both you can get a good deep tan, and you see where to apply.
But it does take practice, this is good if you have a bit of time.
You MUST exfoliate, for ANY self tan, whether it's salon or do it at home. Get a good scrub, and really focus on knees, elbows, behind joints, other rought areas. If you don't have a scrub, a simple wash cloth will work, but you need to rub vigorously.
Some say not to apply lotion before tanning, I disagree. You need to apply a light lotion to even out skin tone, just make sure it dries before applying tanner. 7/10/2006 12:26:27 PM |

^ I do at home bronzers when I don't really care how rough the edges look, but there will be a lot of professional pics, family pics, etc. so I want this to look pretty good. Thanks for the advice though for future at home tanning :-) 7/10/2006 12:28:58 PM |

Neutrogena has an at home airbrush tanner that works very well called neutrogena micromist-- the only non-salon airbrush tanning I have found that goes on really evenly. It has no bronzer so it wont come off on your clothes, but because it lightly mists you, it goes on evenly without the bronzer and you dont have to rub at all. To keep from having darker knees, elbows, and feet, you can put some lotion on these areas and then not directly spray them. when you spray directly the rest of your legs and arms, the overspray gets on them and gives good, correct color. Its very easy and they have directions to help you on their website 7/22/2006 8:10:26 PM |
