my computer randomly shuts off??? it doesnt go through a shutdown process or anything, it just all together turns off. i have run virus scans and i dont have a virus, atleast thats what the scan told me. it first happened when i imported the new red hot chili peppers cd onto itunes and it has been randomly happening since then, bout a week ago. when it does it once, it will do it atleast 5 or 6 more times before i can turn it on and have it stay on. has anyone ever heard of this before and can help me out???

Possible bad power supply/strained power supply. What type of system is it / what do you have in it?

um... look at them and see if they're spinning.

if not, service time.

if in warranty, call the manufacturer.

if not, geek squad or something.

get compressed air and give the fans a good cleanin out with it. in addition, either get a laptop cooling pad or find somethin urself to elevate the laptop so it's not sitting flat on the desk. when it sits flat, the air flow is restricted and makes it harder for it to cool.

Download a program which will monitor the temperature of your computer/processor. Compaq *should* have something available on their website. If not, there are a couple available if you Google it.

Also, check your BIOS settings (look on Compaq's website for how to get into it) for what temperature the computer will automatically shut off at. You may be able to suspend the machine, rather than shut it down, when it begins to overheat.
