My parents are on my ass about why my grades haven't come in the mail yet. Has anyone gotten theirs yet?
Also, random but, for some of the study abroad options, it says you have to have like, a 3.0 GPA or something. Is that the GPA you need to have at the time you apply, or by the time you go? For example, if I wanted to go to Australia for Fall 07, I know I can start applying this November. Do I need to have a 3.0 when I apply? Or does it need to stay a 3.0+ until my butt is actually on that plane?
Are there any study abroad programs in the US? Or would you just apply at another school for a semester and see what would transfer in? It'd be pretty cool to do a semester in Miami/NYC/some other nifty place. 5/22/2006 4:57:53 PM |

Musing on this fact, I realize I should have studied abroad. Instead, I decided to gain corporate experience by doing cooperative education. I should do both, but I really want to graduate at some point before I turn 30. 5/22/2006 5:02:29 PM |

I think you don't get grades in the mail unless you specifically request them or if your grades are changed/recalculated. 5/22/2006 5:02:58 PM |

Another casualty of America's educational system.
Abroad = not domestic = not in the US = outside the US = ...you get my drift...or maybe you don't. Whatever.
To answer what you're aiming for, yes. It's called the National Student Exchange, and you should go to Utah, where they don't care about your brain, as long as you have viable reproductive organs, and don't mind the idea of being one of six wives.
Do you EVER bother to look around the NCSU site? This shit is NOT hard to find.

i'm betting you need the 3.0 when you apply & to keep it through the semester before you leave
how can study abroad take people who "promise" to get their gpa up? 5/22/2006 11:38:55 PM |

It's not necessarily a study abroad program, but I applied to Georgia Tech as a Transient student and am currently taking two CHE courses down here in Atlanta (since State's CHE department is too small to offer summer courses). I still have to pay out-of-fucking-state tuition, however.
Oh well, it'll be worth it if I come out of here with good grades in both classes.5/23/2006 12:39:41 PM |

we do not mail grades to all students.
some examples of those that would:
grade change poor academic progress requested a grade mailer from our office randomly selected students
you can always request them, but we only mail in bunches of 500 so it may take awhile if you were not in the intial batch.
of course there is Pack Tracks for showing grades. 5/23/2006 4:50:51 PM |

I seriously doubt that. Diff in tuition is probably what -- $5000? Compare that to just taking a semester longer, which is worth the 6-month raise for your first job. Im guessing that there are few companies that will give you a $5k six-month raise (assuming you got a good initial salary in the first place).5/23/2006 8:12:12 PM |

hey, i asked the same question. sometimes we run all PBS/UGS, sometimes all SO, sometimes a random special group code.
anyway, grades are mailed to THE STUDENT not the the parents. if they open the student's mail mail they are breaking federal law.5/23/2006 10:20:30 PM |

^ha ha ha.
my mom opens anything and everything that comes to our house, especially from NCSU. it's quite (fucking) annoying, but it's difficult to say "oh, no mom, don't open my mail" b/c that just raises all red flags. even if it's just for the general purpose of it's "nunya bizness." 5/24/2006 6:09:39 AM |
