When I used to work at a grocery store, I found a $100 dollar bill just lying in the middle of one of the aisles. I showed a co-worker when I found it (dumb, I know) who told the owner. The owner kept it for it a week in case someone came in and claimed it. Fortunately, no one claimed it, so it was mine.

True story and probably the coolest thing to ever happen to me.

i found a 20 at a movie theater once. Held onto it and told my manager who said to just keep it.

About an hour later a mother came in and said that her daughter had lost some money and i gave the mother the 20to give to her daughter. She gave me a 20 in return.

I don't, however, keep money I find at work. Money (mostly in wallets/purses) are turned in almost daily. The most I ever saw was right before Christmas some lady lost her purse which had just over $600 in cash in it. I looked her up and called her, she didn't even realize she left behind her purse.

When she insisted on giving me a tip I told her to say something nice on a comment card if she wished to do so.

she did... home office was impressed

That happens more than you'd think. Just with a tad bit less money.

I found a fairly large amount of money outside walmart one time when I was 12 or so, and I turned it in to the store. They held on to it for 2 weeks, and if no one claimed it by then - they said I could keep it.

After 2 weeks, it was mine. Its the best of both worlds, you feel honest AND you get to keep the money! Unless the cops keep the cash and laugh at your ass as you walk out of the station...

If no one claims it in 30 days, the police will give it to him (and then he doesn't have to feel guilty either).

My old roomate found $600 by the ATM over by Food Lion on Avernt Ferry and turned it into the police. No one claimed it so he got it.

I found $80 in $20's laying around in the brickyard one morning. I found a cop and gave her the money. She told me that if no one claims it in 180 days it was mine. 180 days later I was $80 richer and didn't feel guilty at all.
