if bo had a couple of more seasons, i'd say he was the number 2 RB ever, but Jim Brown's gonna hold that spot for a looong time.
haha i remember when they told Emmit Smith about Barry retiring . he was all like "WTF?"

We've already got an Ozzie shoutout in this thread, which is probably what reminded me of this play. But the absolutely sickest defensive highlight I've ever seen was from Ozzie's days as a Padre when he dove up the middle on a grounder. The ball took a bad hop -- hit a pebble or something -- and Ozzie barehanded it, mid-dive, and nailed the runner at first by half a step.

i guess it isn't incredibly uncommon, nor is it all that amazing, but an unassisted triple play is always fun to watch

^^^^ It's pretty damned rare. It's happened 12 times in the modern game. Furcal was the last to do it when he was still a Brave.

For the sake of comparison, there have been 15 perfect games since 1900.

Cal Ripken......No one in MLB today will even get 1/3 of the way

Greatest play I saw on TV (talent wise, not luck wise): Barry Sanders one Thanksgiving shook an entire defense and scored on a long run
Greatest play I saw: Calvin Johnson snagging that ball one handed going full stride in the opposite direction was pretty sick

Isn't Miggy Tejada at like 960 games? That is about 1/3 of the way there.

Still an amazing feat.

^^ Yep, I knew Tejada was off to a good start, and he is 1/3 of the way there, and has 2 + seasons to get to the halfway mark, he might do that actually, but by the end there he'll be 32 at the halfway mark. Basically, given that he plays in a few playoff games he will have to play ten more years straight withotu taking a day off or getting injured.

^Good research. Tejada's streak is actually impressive in its own.

Damn. 10 years straight without missing just to catch him. I cannot imagine. People today can't even go 1 year without missing one day of work. Maybe that's a bad analagy but still.

Because he's probably one of the best athletes in the world. In one of those videos he runs half the field and the ball never touches the ground... or when a pass comes right to him on the edge of the box. He's standing still and just kicks the shit out of it and has enough power to bend it around the goalie. Or the one where he outmanuvers an entire defense to score... it's quite amazing.

An unassisted triple play is not an amazing athletic achievment. It is simply a chance play in a very specific siutation. You can't will yourself to a complete one if there aren't 2-3 runners or already an out.

Zidane scoring two goals in the 90th minute to put France over England 2 - 1 during the Euro2004 cup. That was the same game that Beckham had a PK and he missed it a good 3 or 4 feet over the crossbar which is unusual in that he's a damn fine free kicker. Exciting game. 2 goals in stoppage to win.

oh, really?

i was referring to his amazing diving save over Cam Ward just before the puck crossed the line last night in Game 2.

Thanks for the info on the goalies though.

--oh and technically, Cam Ward was the backup to Martin Gerber for the majority of the regular season. They are both solid but I still consider Gerber the one who got us to the playoffs. Well him and our sick offense.

But yeah that save actually ended up saving the game.

If Cole was back, this team could really rattle the other team.
