But I figure this is the best place to post it. Ok, I would like to build a sled drag similar to the one pictured here...
I went to Lowes today and found a I can buy a piece of sheetmetal and like a metal rod for about $40 all together. This seems is a little on the high side for my budget (still affordable) but I don't have access to a welding equipment, the ability to bend the front or drill holes in the lip.
My questions are...A) Who can I go to that will weld/bend/drill this for me cheap? B) Is there any place in the Raleigh area that could build me the same thing for cheap? 5/23/2006 6:40:18 PM |

1) get the metal from dillon, not lowes.
2) metal brake from harbor freight is 40-60 bucks
you are forgetting the reinforcement in the picture there. 5/23/2006 8:52:41 PM |

I just need to get piece of metal that is large enough to put a 45lbs plate on. What is Dillons and what is a metal brake?
I'm not too worried about the reinforcement, a solid weld should hold.

if you are trying to do interval training with it, bands could be a cheap alternative.

if you are doing endurance, that sled thing would probably work better. although you prolly look pretty silly runnin down the road with that thig swingin behind. prolly make quite a bit of noise too. 5/24/2006 10:20:13 AM |

Dillons (http://www.dillonsupply.com/) is down on West St. downtown. Not sure what sizes they sell plate in, but it should be cheaper than lowe's. You have to get tube in 10 or 20ft lengths though, so you'd be better off copping a bit of tube from whoever you get to do the welding.
If you'd have posted this a couple of week ago, I could have set you up in like 20 minutes, but the school shop is closed till August now
A metal brake is just two bars and a swingarm to bend sheetmetal.5/24/2006 10:36:17 AM |

I have bands, but they weren't cheap
It mostly not going to be used for sprinting. Walking drags, reverse walking drags and recovery lifts.5/24/2006 10:55:50 AM |

^and^^ I don't know much about metal/guage/etc. I just need a square piece bent up and the front like and 1.5-2in. Holes drilled through to attach chain and then some sort of pipe welded into the middle. 5/24/2006 8:15:41 PM |
