If you're thinking about purchasing services from them, please look elsewhere. They are the biggest ripoff since Amway.

Whatever you are thinking about having done to your PC someone off TWW would do way cheaper for you. Most of what you pay the geek squad goes to best buy. There are just as more qualified people on here to work on your computer.

When best buy started the geek squad they did so because they had tons of under paid, overqualified techs. (they get a constant stream from layoffs) The conglomerate saw this as a way to make excellent margin on in home services.

^ Yeah basically it's a way for them to bill their in house techbench people (laid off IT guys and part time college students) as an "expert" tech service. While many of the people who work for geek squad are highly overqualified and fairly knowledgeable, Best Buy requires neither qualification nor knowledge to get a job in the geek squad. Getting "Geek Squad" help doesn't guarantee you skill and service; you're only guaranteed to get someone who isn't paid enough for what they're expected to do.

^^ and ^

I don't know who fed you those lines of bullshit, but that has nothing to do with why they started the service. Best Buy has never EVER had a glut of overqualified employees in ANY respect. The only store(s) that could claim to even have fairly well qualified employees would be the Apple stores and Dell Kiosk Employees. And they are only up there because those are direct sale companies.

Since everyone seems to be confused on this point, Best Buy didn't start the Geek Squad, they bought it in 2002.

Funny enough, the founder seems to think the Geek Squad aquired Best Buy...

my roomate is the guy in charge up at best buy in cary, he DEF knows what he's doing. But its totally true they overcharge like a motherfucker and it does take awhile b/c alot of people take their computers there.

As for the fact that people don't know what they're doing, its bullshit, if one person can't fix it one of the guys over there can, trust me.

Plenty of succesful buisnesses pay their employees far better than bestbuy/geeksquad and do not overcharge their customers when compared to competitors. What would be more correct would be to say:

"Pretty much all successful retail businesses do."
